Pours black with good beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, citrus, resinous. Taste is pretty much the same. Overall: Good black IPA, featuring important roasted notes. Fairly drinkable.

My Bottom Line:
Grape juice, green resins and roasted cereals team up in this bitter, complex Imperial Black IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is plenty of foam lacing atop the black gown.
-The aroma is boastful and quite different (for the style).
-The finishing bitterness is also peppery.
-Mouthfeel is very effervescent (Belgian levels) and rather lean. A few more residual sugars wouldn’t hurt in this case. Letting the beer breathe in the glass also helps.
-Coffee notes are also found, hugging the boisterous coniferous bitterness.
-Flavor profile is a tad too brash for any sort of drinkability to be considered.

Bottle from Broue Ha Ha at the farm. Pitch black pour with thin light tan head. Aroma is roasted dark chocolate malt with some pine hop. Taste is big bitter dark roasted coffee malt with crisp pine hops and a very bubbly - too bubbly - palate. Lasting burnt bitterness. Not bad black IPA.

Bouteille - 500ml.

Bottle from halles de st-jean A: chocolate, light coffee, light tobacco, earthy app: pitch black with thick and lasting beige head. Good lacing t/p: med to full body with long bitter finish. Velvety texture. Some tannins o: little to no hop aroma. The body and texture is really well done. Wood is really subtle.

Bottle from Sherbrooke. Deep black color with a huge tightly bubbled tan head. Big roast and light chocolate with a fair bit of pine earth and citrus. Very tasty beer but feels more like a hoppy porter than a black IPA to me. I had to edit this review because as this warmed it really opened up with some big wood tannin and hints of vanilla. The wood actually started to get a bit oppressive in the aftertaste for me.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2015 Bouteille 500 ml. 7.7%. Couleur noire, mousse beige.
