Pours a clear golden with a small white head that leaves really nice lacing. Nose is that of a dying beer with cardboard, madeira, sherry, whatever. Some sweet clear candi but at this point it is not one of the main features anymore. Not sure if I could tell it was Sauternes barrel aged, maybe it was more apparent when fresh? Taste is of alcohol, madeira and grapes. Hot alcohol. Moderate body and carbonation. This one is dead... A nice experience in hot aging beers, I guess.

Bottle (500 ml). Shared by minderbinder, thanks! Slightly hazy bright golden, good retention, leaving some lacing. Aroma of Welch grape juice, oak spiciness, alcohol, citrusy notes and white grapes. Taste is sweet with lots of grape juice, boozy notes, oak spiciness and a bit of garbage. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Grape juice finish. Hot. Oxidized. Way too much grape juice. Unbalanced. Maybe a bad bottle, but that’s horrible.

pours hazy bright golden with a nice creamy white head, reviving and leaving strong lacing. rotten pale fruitiness - white grape and white cranberry juice, welch’s *TM style; very woody, very spicy as well - fennel, other provence herbs; hint of sweetness - spicy honey. bright and kind of foamy carbonation, light to medium body; burning hot, sweet and spicy finish. scattered and miscellaneous stenchy contaminated sauternes. blah.

(Rating #6856)

Bottle shared with Alex and Seb A : sauterne, alcohol, grappy, fruity app: hazy pale thick white head. t/p: full body with sweet and moderate long finish. Fizzy O: a nice beer to split since it’s big. Has it warms the barrel blend even more with rest and become even more enjoyable.

500ml bottle from Bières et Délices at $27...yes you read that right... $27. Aroma: Sauternes, spices, Belgian yeast, alcohol. App: hazy pale semi golden, minimal white head. Taste and palate: medium body, light sweetness, dry light bitter and alcohol finish. Overall: liked the alcohol touch but only if shared with others. Would be too much alone. Overall liked it but way too expensive for what it?s worth but could be because of where I bought it.

Bien reussi!

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2016 My Bottom Line:
Bread dough with bananas and pears whip up pancake allusions, while white grapes and alcohol warmth envelop this surprisingly easygoing monster of a brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A cloud of foam slowly dissipates atop the hazy yellow-beige.
-The vinous finish is long but never tiring.
-The base beer works well with the barrel-aging treatment even though you could say the Sauternes tends to dominate in the nose and finish.
-Some rustic hay notes are found within as well.
-There is a lot of yeast in this bottle, as is often the case for Lac St-Jean brews. The first glass is fine, but the second’s flavor profile is obfuscated.
-Addendum: a more mature bottle shows better flavor cohesion and quite a lot of refinement. Bumping up the score.

Bottles.
