A deliciously robust, rich blend of hops and malt, including an English barley first used in 1905 called Plumage Archer. This traditional ale is lovingly brewed using barley from selected organic farms, including Duchy Home Farm at Highgrove.

Mild and a bit more watery than anticipated. A tad too malty for my taste.

Gehbe (458) - Vilnius, LITHUANIA - FEB 13, 2017
Clear deep amber with a small beige head. Rather weak aroma of baguette and some herbal hoppy notes. Light to medium bitterness, light sweetness, quite high carbonation sourness. Thin and overcarbonated. Overcarbonated. And thin.

Waitrose Duchy Originals Organic Old Ruby Ale 1905. Bottle from Victa Belvedere in Split, shared with heavy. Clear dark amber body with a thick fluffy off white head. Dry malty aroma with some peppery herbal notes. Dry, light dusty/herbal taste, light, very light caramel, dry and soft. Vague plum note, vague vegetal touch. Meh. Like most of these, a tick I have no interest in revisiting any time soon.

ogivlado (8108) - Zagreb, CROATIA - DEC 30, 2016
Bottled 500ml. -from Vrutak Zagreb. Amber coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, toffee in the nose. Sweet malty, toffee, caramel, light bready and fruity with some odd touch of perfumed pear in the finish. So-so.

vinivini (3011) - Gomel, BELARUS - OCT 28, 2016
Bottle. Clear amber beer, moderate rocky off-white head. stays as a filmy layer on surface. The aroma is candy, biscuit, fruit esters. Medium body. Oily to creamy texture. Malty taste with lots of caramel, lollipop, esters again, light hoppy grassiness. More hops would have made sense, I guess. Still decent enough.

30/9/16. Bottle at home. All a but disappointing. The flavours just don't come through. No real malt or hop flavour. Even the aroma is a bit flat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 500ml (Waitrose). *** Colour: Reddish chestnut colour, medium-sized, clreamy off-white head. *** Nose: Caramel, floral hops, a hint of red berries. *** Mouthfeel: Medium body, slightly creamy; not watery at all. Medium carbonation. Taste: Again caramel and floral hops, more pronounced red fruit and a slight sugary sweetness in the background. Same towards the middle, finish is toffee, and floral notes. Mildly sweetish aftertaste of red fruit and caramel. *** Impressions: Above-average ruby ale/ESB with nice fruity touches and a good balance of hops and malt. More depth than I expected.

Appearance: Clear copper in colour, small caramel head. Aromas: Malt, toffee/caramel, apricots and cherries, palate: flat, watery, light bodied. Taste: Dissapointing! Malt and caramel- but it’s a very simple taste. Overall: smells promising but bit of a let down to be honest. Wouldn’t call it a ruby ale.

jjsint (3502) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 7, 2016
Bottle from Waitrose, drunk at home. Light honey brown, clear, with large beige head. Floral, malty scent. Very simple but pleasant. Tastes sweet with some sulphurous bitter/sour flavours at the end. Not great but passable.

Hammy78 (975) - Dundas, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 1, 2016
Bottle. Pours a copper colour, huge white head with a slight reddish tinge, lots of lace. Nose is not very good. Tastes malty and a bit bitter. Not that good, but drinkable

Bottle 500 ml from Daou. Amber with an average head. Aromas of cereals, barley sugar, caramel, white fruits. The taste is malted, bread, earthy bitterness, almond, sweet apple and ripe apricot, black tea. Smooth and creamy beer, sweetened and herbaceous.
