Draft at the Khyber. Very dark clear copper pour with a decent tan head that quickly dropped to a ring. Burnt toast. Slightly smoky ash. Some very dark chocolate caramel. Pine needles. Truffles. Black walnuts. Medium body. Nice range of black flavors but doesn’t seem to run very deep. Leafs93 (2305) - Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 6, 2013
Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma is roast, floral, citrus and coffee beans. Taste is sweet with roasty bitters. Medium bodied and smooth textured. DocLock (10830) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Draft at brewpub. Poured hazy blackish brown with tan head. Nose was sprucey hops, dark malt, cacao, and tastes of resiny hops, dark roasty malt, and a finishing crispness. quiznoaz (309) - Arizona, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Draft at Arundel Mills back in November. Starts with a suprisingly sweet chocolate aroma and taste. Fades to a pleasant amount of bitter that lingers a while. Nice beer. BlueRidgeMatt (39) - Virginia, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Didn't live up to my expectations.

Dark brown coloured body with a thick, five centimetre tall, soapy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, grass, light hops, alcohol and quite a bit of milk. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with licorice, oatmeal, anise and caramel all noticeable at first which slowly fade to pungent hops, alcohol and a good amount of earthy bitterness. Aftertaste shows more character than the initial tastes with milk, oatmeal, pitted fruits, caramel and deep metallic bitterness percolating. Overall, a good Black IPA that borders on a porter, but has a good complex finish that works well with the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 24-October-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 18-December-2012. On draft at DuClaw in Bowie, MD.
The beer is dark brown, approaching blackness, with a dense khaki head that coats the glass in lacing. A fabulous appearance. The aroma offers hops, roast, pine, chocolate. Nice flavor, though a bit understated for my liking. Both hop and roast characters are lacking in intensity. Residual chocolate and pine notes. Smooth feel with moderately low carbonation. Easy to enjoy a pint, though nothing implores me to order a second serving. Overall, decent beer that has potential for improvement. Worth a try.

12oz bottle. Pretty solid offering, par for the course. Roasty mint tinged chocolate caramel. Balanced and well executed. Deep brown black body, vibrant beige head, pretty steady. Enjoyable, full body. A solid offering, albeit a middle of the road and forgettable beer too. Respectable. abcfan (920) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 1, 2012
Good. Pours black with no head. Aroma is primarily roasted malts. Taste is bitter chocolate malt, with a slightly bitter mild hop finish. thunderhops (224) - Vermont, USA - NOV 30, 2012
Pours black with minimal head. Aroma roasted malts, vanilla. Taste roasted malts, bitter chocolate, somewhat watery body, long dry, sticky bitter finish.
