This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that held for a little bit and fell off at a decent pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had a thick roasty malt up front and then some grapefruity and piney hop bitterness. Some subtle dark chocolate more so at the end.
The flavor had a nice blend between roast, hop bitterness and sweet. Added in a little bit of some sprucy slight woody taste which followed into the aftertaste. Mild roast and bitter sort of finish.
The palate was medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it due to the style I’m guessing - good palate wrecking capabilities. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty good black IPA that calls all of the shots I expected it to do. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 20, 2015
Draft. Medium tan head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit/pine, some chocolate, roast. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, chocolate, pine, some grapefruit, light lemon. Medium body, some acidity. ARonHanks (7) - - MAY 9, 2015 does not count
A personal favorite style (black ales) that enjoys good roasted malts with nice chocolate and toffee flavors. The hop balance allows this big flavor beer to be enjoyed with spicy food as a pairing balance. Darkmagus82 (2302) - - SEP 8, 2014

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is poured a nearly pitch black color with a one finger tan colored head floating atop the brew after pouring. The head fades over a moderate amount of time to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is on the sweeter side overall with a decent presence of chocolate mixed with a caramel and molasses smell. With these aromas are some lighter notes of darker fruits and some nut.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter roasted malt flavor with some dark fruit and molasses sugar. As the flavor advances some tastes of chocolate and pine hop come to the tongue. The hop is never too strong with the pine soon being replaced by a citrus hop flavor. This citrus hop is joined by some flavors of coffee and heavily roasted/burnt taste to leave a sweet and moderately roasty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. Not bad for the roasted and slightly hopped flavors of the brew, but also nothing too exceptional.
Overall – A tasty darker, but very drinkable and lightly hopped brew. Not bad. harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - NOV 17, 2013
It’s black, nice loose light tan foam. Smells like dark toasted malts, licorice, graham, some molasses, some bits of lighter hops. Nice malt nose. Flavor is graham, soil, lots of malts, sweet, some bits of smoke and vanilla. Full bodied with a sparkly carb and a dry finish. Overall, I feel this beer is miscategorized as a Black Ale, the hops are nearly nonexistent, but the base beer is a really nice stout - a little confused by this aspect, but a good beer.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with minimal head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, caramel. Medium light sweetness. Light bitter. Medium body. A low bitter, big roasted malty beer. Emeister84 (2505) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - APR 21, 2013
Milk chocolate, coffee, and nutty aromas. Brown-black with a moderately retaining, light tan head. Dry, roasty, and bitter. Light-medium body, good carbonation, and with a finish that is clean and roasty. FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a dark cola color with a medium sized foamy beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty wood and cola. The flavor was bitter toasted malts, a bit of roastiness underneath and then smoke, faint fruity hops, cola and pine. Long roasty, smoky and piney finish. Medium body. 12 oz bottle: Pours almost black, light tan head lots of small bubbles on the side of the glass, continued CO2 release. Aroma of dark roasted malts, carob, and some grass. Taste is bitter with an acrid finish. Bubbly on the palate, but such a harshness to it that overpowers everything after the front of the tounge. Interesting dry/acrid finish that is a displeasure. Explodes out of the bottle with a huge tan head. Medium roast with not much hop presence and overly carbonated.
