Sample at the Central OH BA Tasting at From The Vine on 06/02/2012: This aptly-named beer is a dark reddish-amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of honey, dark fruit and malt. Tastes somewhere between and Mead and Port Wine if that is possible. The finish is syrupy and fruity. Interesting to say the least, and a nice sipper. madmitch76 (25823) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 4, 2012

ChrisOs Kook Tasting. Slightly hazy dark amber beer. Light nose of sweet malt. Low carbonation. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Sweet malt and fruits. Subtle spicy cherry and strawberry. Dried fruits and subtle raisin. Mild caramel and then inevitable aniseed alcohol that is also quite sweet. Finishes a little warming but nothing like 22%!!. Sweet, strong and of surprisingly subtle flavours. Very dangerously drinkable!
Tasted in 2009. Copper in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of booze, brown sugar and malt. Taste is of bread dough, malt, caramel, toffee and brown sugar. djd07 (15704) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 5, 2012
Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is a fruity malt and oak. Medium mouthfeel with a vanilla oak flavor and sweet finish. Alcohol present but not overpowering. A good American strong ale from DuClaw. Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 28, 2012
Bottle shared at the RBWG in Austin. Brownish red pour with a small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, very sweet, and maybe some dark fruit. Taste is sweet, more alcohol, a little caramel, brown sugar, and some spice.

Almost sickeningly sweet, but the taste is awesome. Syrupy goodness -- my imagination compares this to a potion you would consume in a game like Diablo. Great. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - DEC 30, 2011
wowza. 2009 vintage 22oz. this definitely drinks almost like a mead, very sweet and rich and thick. nice carb though. good stuff, drinks well for a while but its just an uphill battle against cloying after a while. some oak to dry this out and add some of the sweeter sweet flavors like vanilla and caramel would be really nice. right now its sweet but really dark pitted fruit, some prune, etc. but with some nice things underneath that could be brought out. dabubbleboy (73) - Virginia, USA - DEC 25, 2011
Poured 750ml into a chimay glass. Has a scotch color with no defined head. Notes of baked figs with strong notes of alcohol. The aroma translates to the taste. It goes downs surprising well given the high alcohol. This beer exhibits more complex and enjoyable favors has it gets closer to room temp. seekingup2 (80) - - DEC 12, 2011
Draft @ bel air location, and 22oz bottle. Definitely had a "liquor" aroma, as well as heavy spices. Very high alcohol content and to me it definitely tasted like it. Great for what it is, just not my style. iugrad93 (265) - Indiana, USA - OCT 16, 2011
Pours a brownish red with small off white head little lacing. Aromas of apples, cinnamon, and booze. Taste is sweet, notes of apple, kind of like a cider. Little carbonation, warms as it goes down. Overall, this has nice flavor but too big for me. The ABV is high and fairly well hidden, but still too sweet and too much booze.
