COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year, we aged a limited quantity of our award winning (Brewers Association of Maryland Governors Cup gold medal winner in 2006, 2007 and 2008) Barleywine, Devils Milk, in Kentucky White Oak Bourbon barrels to create a uniquely tempting new brew. Hell On Wood is medium/full-bodied and amber in color with a thin, persistent, off-white head. Its mesmerizing citrus flavors and aromas, accented by notes of charred oak, vanilla, and caramelized sugar, give way to a palate dominating hop finish balanced by smoky, bourbon character and a warming alcohol presence (10.6% alcohol by volume). Theres no escape; prepare to fall to the seductive power of Hell On Wood!

Dogbrick (11889) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 28, 2014
This beer is a hazy dark brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, wood and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, oaky bourbon, caramel and citrus. The finish is smoky and boozy with a caramel malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

chinchill (4441) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 15, 2016
12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Pours with a murky copper-brown body topped by a thin, mostly short-lived head. Minimal lacing. Powerful bourbon and bourbon barrel aspects to the aroma and only a little less pronounced and dominant in the flavor. Still, theres a strong barleywine base that is clearly evident in the flavor. There are vanilla, wood, dark soft and dried fruits, hops and, of course, bourbon, notes in the flavor. Good complexity. Overall: Boozy, with a clear presence of the 10+% ABV. A strong ale for bourbon lovers.

jsmerig (1523) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2016
Pours a hazy Amber brown with a white head. Aroma of vanilla and caramel. Taste is deeply malty up front that fades into a smokey middle. Then it takes a turn where both a sour and sweet vanilla combination takes you into the finish. Dryness of smokey but in lingers well after the taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from WF PM. Pours hazy copper with loud, off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, molasses, oaky bourbon. Tastes rich, very dense on the tongue, with heavy oak and bourbon flavor, caramel, molasses, hops, mild smoky flavor. This is the best DuClaw beer I have had, and Ill be buying a case to cellar.

Willrunforbeer reached into his cellar and pulls out a 2/14/2014 bottle, what a guy!! Sort of a Dirty muddy water Amber color, head died right after the pour. Aroma is fruity with English malts, oak and light bourbon.

Very nicely aged here... I guess some people still drink these fresh?? The caramel, toffee and bourbon just works. The booze has completely mellowed out. Mouthfeel is low carbonation with a light boozy finish. More ? Yes please!!
