Mild hops for an Oktoberfest, but a nice tangy character that makes it a truely enjoyable drink. themadmumis (347) - Westminster, Maryland, USA - JUL 12, 2006
I’m a fan of the Oktoberfest brew. Last had at the Spring Maryland Beer festival. Much to my suprise, as I was stumbling about the fairgrounds, to come across DuClaw’s tent with a ’Mad Bishop’ sign raised to announce it’s presence on tap, 6 months after its release. Really not the best Oktoberfest, but it is f’ing phenominal in Spring, when another Oktoberfest brew is no where in sight. Sweetness subtly sneaks up on you as the balanced character of the brew fulfills the palate. My Favorite DuClaw brew. happy4hops (376) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - OCT 29, 2003
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2004 2004.This is a good fest.Very much like Dominion & Victory..If you like fests this is one of the better.Very smooth with enough fine noble hops to let you know this is the real deal. This one is perfectly balanced, and of a rich yet session like quality.Rich Amber color, really well done. This is the best brewer in MD! 2004 batch. Served at Duclaw’s rollout party of 2004. Served in a ceramic pint complimentary glass. Color is dark amber, a true Octoberfest colored beer. Aromas are of sweet malts, slight toastiness, earthy hops. Balanced to a "tee". Maltiness is well balanced by the noble hops, and nothing stands out above anything else. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel lends itself to easy drinkability.
Rich mouthfeel isn’t too thick, nor too thin, but just right. A first class Octoberfest beer from the gang at Duclaw’s. You owe it to yourself to get a couple of growlers to go, like I did, before it’s all gone. MarkSachon (1037) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 1, 2015
12 oz bottle from the 4 type sampler case. Rich and sweet, this beer has a lot to offer fans of the dark side.

Bottle. Lactic caramel malt and fresh hay aroma. Dark amber with nice light tan head. Mildly sweet bready toffee malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Very good. hopscotch (11177) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 23, 2002
This beer rocks.
Handsome beer. Pristine copper hue. Medium sized, white, frothy head with good lacing. Very malty, slightly sweet. Lively carbonation. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Finishes nice and fairly dry (for an Oktoberfest. guzzler67 (1696) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - OCT 27, 2003
Dark amber appearance with a fruity, floral aroma. Taste had a toasted malt flavor with a bit of nuttiness. Some sweetness, but not enough to be distracting. Smooth, finish with a small degree of spiciness. edden (925) - cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 4, 2005

Light malty aroma with an amber body. No head, no lace. Malts and hops. Malts are sugary with an amber-like quality. Clean finish.
Aroma-Nutty aroma with a hint of toffee and carmel notes.
Appearance-Amber color with a minimal white head like most duclaw beers.
Taste-Medium sweetness and bitterness. I wish it were a little more malty in taste but that is being nit picky.
Overall-I like this beer. Is it the best oktober fest beer? No but it is a very good beer. I could drink this all of the time.
