Firkin @ DuClaw Real Ale Fest. Deep brown and ruby pour. Little to no head. Obvious raspberry aroma, some darker fruits like raisin, and slight bread in the aroma. Caramel malt with a lot of sweetness with a nice raspberry after-taste. Light carbonation as expected. A little grassy hop bitterness. Nice take on Misfit Red. kmweaver (3207) - Petaluma, California, USA - AUG 8, 2008
Firkin @ Bowie Firkin Friday. Pours a murky, raspberry-brown color; dirty light tan head with anywhere from good head formation (my glass) to effectively nothing (Ali’s); solid, fine-bubbled lacing in my pour. Lots of tea, red fruits, and a touch of caramel in the aroma; some tannins, and reasonably dry; fruit character isn’t pitty or syrupy, but somewhere in-between. Some light red fruit and tannins and dust at the front; medium mouthfeel: red fruits, predominantly, with a lighter presence of tea and very soft, roasted chocolate malts; some toastiness mid-palate; nice levels of acidity and reasonable carbonation make this very drinkable; better than its base. Medium finish: nicely dry and toasty, with plenty of red fruit notes; never comes across as syrupy or overtly sweet.
