The winner of Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Beer in Baltimore 1998.” We’d like to thank the smooth, roasted malt flavor. The mild hop presence. The little people.

On tap 5 oz. sampler at DuClaw in Bowie, MD. Clear, dark mahogany with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of caramel and sweet roasted malt. Taste of caramel, sweet roasted malt, bread and mild dark fruit. Medium body and medium/low carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Vedge. Pours a deep brown with some off-white head and lace. Nose of dark roasted malts, bread, tobacco, dark fruits. The flavor is dominated by robust roasted malts, fairly dry, no hop flavor, some bread and yeast. It was a decent beer for what it is but not really my style.

Decent red ale that is very drinkable. Little roast flavor and a light hop palate. Not too much to it.

Tap. Pours dark reddish-brown with average, fizzy beige head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is cherries, mixed berries, cookie and caramel malts, dough, light floral hops, and light woody notes. Flavor is balanced sweet malts and dark berry esters with faint hops and a touch of ash; dry, somewhat astringent finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

DocLock (10745) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Draft at Duclaw. Deep ruby pour, with nose of vinous fruit, vienna malt, hops. Tastes crisp, with a nice mix of fruitiness and hoppiness to match the malt bill.

PhillyCraft (7417) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 9, 2012
Pours a slightly hazy amber brown shade with thin white head, not lasting, small lace. Aromas of malt, cherries, light berry, biscuit, and yeast. Taste is very muddled and somewhat bland, get some berries, malt but not much else. A little hoppy. Mouth was on the weaker side. Not a fan really.

Bottle at the campsite at BCTC. Pours a clear ruby crimson with a thin white to beige head. Sweet malt, toast, light hops. Malt and toast, crisp hop tones. Long sweetness and hops. Crisp and easy drinking.

This poured a darker amber to red color with a beige head. Aroma was of metal, light toasted malt and some biscut. Flavor was much the same, dry and somewhat bland but nothing offensive.

Draft at Bel Air location. Pretty cut and dry here. Red color, bland taste. Just not much too this one.

I was bored by this one...looks nice and red with a little head but there’s just not much flavor to it. Flat malt, a tiny, tiny bit of hops, that’s it. Body has little character and it almost tastes spoiled the flavor is so flat. Bleh
