Very dark pour with a thin head. Roasted malt really comes through and delivers coffee and chocolate flavors. The bourbon flavors come out in the sweet carmel finish. A big beer at 11.5 ABV. This is one of the better DuClaw beers Ive tried.

Bottle. Definitely the night cap. Thick and meaty, this carries its whiskey barrel roots right up front in every aspect. The aroma is quite subtle, actually, hinting only at a rich, warm beer. And this drinks with an exquisitely well balanced character ... the oak-laden whiskey character is so finely interlaced with the warm, chocolatey beer that youll want to wish that everyone who tries this can do it so well. Very, very good! (#5344, 11/24/2013)

Big and boozy. Cocoa dominates with an astringent roast back end. Sticky sweet. Meh.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2013 This was a surprise gem! Fragrant aroma of malt, oak and bourbon. Pours black oil dark and thick. Minimal dark oak head. Flavor is complex and evolving on the palate. Smokey, oak, bourbon, mocha, vanilla, hints of fruit and bread. Slight bitterness of imperial on the aftertaste.

Pour out of bottle at Zwanze Day 2012, thick brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought thick dark chocolate, lots of roast, sweet molasses, nice coffee bean notes as well in there go into some spice, earthy tones with a hint of dark fruits, nice vanilla, oak and bourbon come through. Taste is thick oak, bourbon, and vanilla notes into caramel, nice dark chocolate, coffee notes come through, finishing bitter, roasty.

on Tap @ Duclaw. Extremely dark brown but not totally black. Small amount of head with little to no lacing. The nose hinted that this was going to be a bourbon bomb. Not to say that the bourbon wasnt noticable and the 10.5% was not hiding anywhere, it was not bad. Lots of chocolate and coffee undertones but lots of astringent alcohol sweetness as well. Was also a bit syrupy in the mouthfeel dept. A good BA Stout. Just needs a bit of refinement.
