First brewed in 2011, this Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.2% abv. Sweet Baby Jesus finishes smooth, dry, and roasty with lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter so savory, you will exclaim its name!

Bottle pour - near black with flecks of red when held to a light - minimal tan head. Aroma is interesting - peanut butter is very obvious, dark malts, extremely roasty (burnt malt notes), but all with an underlying sweetness with some coffee and chocolate...one moment I’m thinking this is really cool and the next I’m a bit turned off by things - odd. Flavor hits up front with some peanut butter, sweet malts, then turns quickly to bitter with burnt sugars and malts. Coffee plays in the background...this one came out a lot more bitter than I was anticipating, and not in a good way. Odd, slightly sour finish plays with my head a bit too. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side for something this roasted. Quite meh on this one - I’m usually a bit high on my ratings, but I’ll bring down there average here a bit...

Bottle. Sweet chocolate and peanut butter aroma. Classic dark porter appearance. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee and peanuts. Medium to full bodied. Long malty finish.

On tap at Crafty Burg’r in Huntersville. Pours a deep brown with off white head. Chocolate, peanut butter, malted milk aromas. Peanut butter, chocolate, malty, ashy flavors. One of my favorite peanut butter beers

I couldn’t get a hold of the Karl Strauss Peanut Butter Porter but my buddy Beercation hooked me up with this wonderful consolation prize: DuClaw Sweet Baby Jesus! Chocolate Peanut Butter Potter 6.2% Wow, the aroma on this is great - roasty nutty chocolate, the image in my mind is of toasted nuts covered inn luscious chocolate. Awesome. Medium-full bodied with a raspy carbonation. The taste is nutty, roasty, bitter chocolate. This is really really nice stuff though the aroma kicks the flavors ass though both are great. Umm, nutty chocolate goodness...

Newport News, Va - Total Wine & More - 12 oz bottle. Dark, cola-like brown pour, long lasting, medium thick khaki colored head. Aroma of generic brand peanut butter and topsoil with a hint of chocolate. Bold flavor with peanut butter being the most prominent, some trailing chocolate accents, similar to a liquid Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Mouthfeel could be just a tad thicker to match the bold flavor. Overall, a pleasant novelty.

The beer is dark brown and appears fairly clear. Small to medium beige head. Decent retention. The aroma is sweet, cheap milk chocolate and intense peanuts. There’s also a healthy dose of cola. It’s an over the top in a gimmicky sort of way to me. Yes, it smells like peanuts and chocolate but not in a particularly good way. It reminds me of a novelty soap. Taste is a bit better, but it’s just shallow and sweet with artificial-tasting flavors. There’s no rich depth to offset the sweet peanut butter and chocolate. It’s like a crappy candy bar. There’s also a funny bitter sour twang in the finish as a coffee note kicks up - seems oddly out of place. The thin feel hurts this beer a lot. No creaminess. It’s just fizzy and light.

Pitch black with a foamy tan head. Powerful aroma of dark chocolate, peanut butter, espresso. Taste is a rich, nutty, unsweetened peanut butter with underpinning dark chocolate notes. Finishes bitter with a lingering nutty aftertaste. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. Overall pretty decent.

Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing!
Pours very dark brown colour with a huge most good lasting tan head. Aroma of peanuts, caramel, vanillla, dark mild roasted malt. Taste of dark roasted malt, tons of peanuts, vanilla, chocolate, delicious!

Many thanks to my "Santa 2015" jsquire for this bottle! Peanuts and chocolate in the nose. The beer starts very dry - like a Snickers without sugar. The beer is very dry, lots of dark roasted malts, the chocolate and the peanut butter are not too overwhelming. I like the great smooth combination. Great stuff!

Poured from a bottle. Very dark brown, almost black, with a bit of caramel color around the edges and a big frothy beige head. Aromas of peanut butter and malty chocolate. Smells almost exactly like the chocolate peanut butter flavor of Optimum Nutrition’s casein protein powder. Feel is moderately full-bodied with a bit more carbonation than I would like. Taste starts a little more slowly and subtly than the smell, but brings the same flavors: peanut butter, chocolate, and malt, along with some milkiness. The finish is pretty dry with a hint of bitterness. Overall, the smell is maybe too strong, but not a bad beer. Not something I would drink all the time though.
