This is a foam poor ale with a powerful aroma of good dark malt and coffee. The taste is characterized by hard roasted malt with some undertones of coffee and a little dark bitter chocolate. Long aftertaste with relatively dry bitterness. Bottle. Labeled as Rudolf Winter Ale. Pours a clear ruby brown body with a small fizzy light brown head that faded pretty quickly. The nose is slightly sweet and chocolaty with some light caramel and roast. Maybe a touch of burnt rubber in the aroma, but it’s very faint. The flavor is lightly sweet up front with some burnt caramel and chocolate, fading to a lightly roasty and coffee laced finish. Medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation and a lingering sweet, almost licorice like finish. Interesting Porter, it seems to be in fine shape if this is indeed retired. Bottle sampled in 2009. Dark brown almost black body with a rather small beige head. Very nice aroma of dark, roasted malt, chocolate, prunes and some light citric fruit. Flavor is sweet and roasted malt, dark chocolate, dry fruit and citric fruit with a good bitterness. Full body and a long and pleasant aftertaste of sweet roasted malt and fruity bitterness. Harmony and balance.

On tap at Avenue Pub. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, roasted nuts, coffee grounds, and chocolate. Flavor of chalky roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, dark fruits with a hint of raisin, and more roast in the finish. Rich and flavorful. A hearty porter with a low abv.

So, I’m not sure if this is a re-brew of a retired beer, in which case it should be aliased, or an annual release. I bought it from State Line in Elkton, MD on January 12, 2013. No markings of "Perfect Rudolf" on it, and no year either. Anyway, bottle. Almost black color, light brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, dark roast coffee. Beer smells smoke, coffee, burnt malt and nuts.

Mahogny färgad näst intill obefintligt gräddbrunt skum (från 1/2 meter så går det att få till lite). Doftfattig men dessto mer smaktung. Rostat kaffe, mulberry tree, oljig koncistens. Eftersmaken bär men inte hela vägen, beskan lyser igenom, tyvärr för mycket.
