3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: nice dark malts, chocolate, citrus, mango, freshly roasted coffee (very nice), the hops definitely make it so much better… Slightly off note in the background of well used idrottssalsgolv
Flavour: initally pretty bitter, fleshy, big maltiness. Some sourishness, sweetness and more bitterness comes booming. Very full-bodied. The flavour is in the realms of imperial stout, with more citrus and cocoa bitterness and less roast. This is awesome. The aftertaste if of sour cocoa. Really suprisingly cocoa-like. The hops add som e freshness which I believe lifts this up from a bitter cocoa-mess. Don’t get me wrong though, the bitterness is far from unbearable, it is just not balanced up very much sweetness, making it a beer that makes you thirsty.
Appearance: Dark earth brown, clear body. Yellowish-greyish fine head. Not creamy, but not bubbly.
Palate: Slimy as if cocoa were used. Fluffy, thick, elegant. Carbonation is rather weak (natural) – good.
This is a foam poor ale with a powerful aroma of good dark malt and coffee. The taste is characterized by hard roasted malt with some undertones of coffee and a little dark bitter chocolate. Long aftertaste with relatively dry bitterness. It can be a little reminiscent of a porter, while its full-bodied taste of dried fruit makes it instead to a slightly heavy dark ale, which certainly is super for Christmas. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 23, 2014
Bottle. Labeled as Rudolf Winter Ale. Pours a clear ruby brown body with a small fizzy light brown head that faded pretty quickly. The nose is slightly sweet and chocolaty with some light caramel and roast. Maybe a touch of burnt rubber in the aroma, but it’s very faint. The flavor is lightly sweet up front with some burnt caramel and chocolate, fading to a lightly roasty and coffee laced finish. Medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation and a lingering sweet, almost licorice like finish. Interesting Porter, it seems to be in fine shape if this is indeed retired. I wouldn’t be afraid to pick up another bottle of this as of today. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - DEC 22, 2013

500. Pours black with a dense and creamy tan head that fades. Sweet roasty nose, mostly black bread and bread crusts. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Roasty, bready mid palate. Long roasty finish. Not bad. Beer5000 (6544) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - OCT 3, 2013
Bottle sampled in 2009. Dark brown almost black body with a rather small beige head. Very nice aroma of dark, roasted malt, chocolate, prunes and some light citric fruit. Flavor is sweet and roasted malt, dark chocolate, dry fruit and citric fruit with a good bitterness. Full body and a long and pleasant aftertaste of sweet roasted malt and fruity bitterness. Harmony and balance.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark brown with a rocky tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a chocolate and molasses flavor that is a bit too thin and a dry herbal finish. LilBeerDoctor (3971) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 21, 2013
On tap at Avenue Pub. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, roasted nuts, coffee grounds, and chocolate. Flavor of chalky roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, dark fruits with a hint of raisin, and more roast in the finish. Rich and flavorful. A hearty porter with a low abv.

So, I’m not sure if this is a re-brew of a retired beer, in which case it should be aliased, or an annual release. I bought it from State Line in Elkton, MD on January 12, 2013. No markings of "Perfect Rudolf" on it, and no year either. Anyway, bottle. Almost black color, light brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, dark roast coffee. Taste is rich burnt caffe macchiaato. Good stuff. gyllenbock (9313) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 9, 2009
Dark brown colour with a beige head.
Beer smells smoke, coffee, burnt malt and nuts.
Quite sweet taste, licorice, chocolate, a bit sour, fruit, smoke, nuts. Thick body, a rather nice beer. Nisse666 (7524) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 21, 2009

AR: roasted malt, sprity, melas
AP: brownish mahogny, a bit reddish
F. roasted malt, coffey, brown sugar, medium bitterness, medium carbonation: 3,4 - keep rating!
Mahogny färgad näst intill obefintligt gräddbrunt skum (från 1/2 meter så går det att få till lite). Doftfattig men dessto mer smaktung. Rostat kaffe, mulberry tree, oljig koncistens. Eftersmaken bär men inte hela vägen, beskan lyser igenom, tyvärr för mycket.
