Deep amber with a low but firm head. Malty aroma with notes of oranges and red berries. Bitter flavour with notes of hops, salty liquorice and alcohol. A bit too strong for its own good.
Aroma: hohoho... wonderful, zesty, pine, chocolate, nutty, dried pineapple, much more American than Belgian profile. Molasses / dark syrup.thewolf (12755) - Kolding, DENMARK - JUL 13, 2008
Flavour: wow, sourish, very sourish, musty, very malty, dried cranberries & figs. Slightly of tarragon or chervil & liquorice. Wormwood?
Palate: very smooth, fluffy.
Appearance: slightly foggy deep red copper with yellowish & irregular but fine foam.

Pours deep amber with a small, creamy, beige head. Okay duration. Sweet, vinious aroma with raisins, yeast and chocolate notes. Compared to the ABV, the mouthfeel feels a little light, but makes it much more drinkable. Flavour is very soft, though very vinious as well. Lots of raisins and subdued caramel. Okay, but too strong.

Clear amber coloured, small off white head, fruity alcoholic nose. Few streams of carbonation. Sweet malty, surprisingly pleasant mild alcoholic and spicy taste. Notes of toffee and caramel as well. Very good grand tasting opening beer.
Bottled. Amber colour, beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, wood, some alcohol and a bit of yeast. Flavour is sweet malts, some mild alcohol, yeast and wood. Also has a bunch of grassyness in the finish. harrisoni (19189) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2008
Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand Tasting. Clear deep amber with thin beige head. Rather a lovely hop sweet DIPA aroma. Strong malt, toffee in mouth. Bit malt whiskyish, bit overpowering. Some yeast. It’s a bit strong, but good hop and character. Marko (5930) - Split / Zagreb, CROATIA - JUL 7, 2008

What a way to start the tasting... a 9.8% Belgian style ale. Poured a lovely dark amber-red with a small off white head. Lovely nose, some red fruit, caramel, alcohol. Nice and pungent. Taste... bitter and sourish, fruity. Light dry chalky spiciness. Piney. Some warming alcohol. Odd, but not in a bad way. Interesting.
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2009 Bottle. An almost clear, copper beer with an off-white head. Chocolate, toffee, caramel, some fruits, dried fruits and a nice hoppyness in the aroma. Warming, full-bodied mouthfeel with a nice carbonation level, and flavors of fruit and toffee, some alcohol, sweetness and a nice bitterness. Long sweet, toffeeish finish wit a nice bitterness. Maybe the beer is a bit toffeeish, but it’s still quite lovely. Not the typical Belgian one, rather strange in a way, but in a good way. (080530)
