UPDATED: JAN 2, 2016 Bottled from Biernavigatie.nl. Dark brown colored, brown head. Lots of wood in aroma, vanilla, smoke, some malts. Malty flavor, initially quite sweet, later on some wood, finishing quite bitter. Lasting finish. I like the wood-flavor, but the bock itself doesn’t taste that special (original rating: 3.6) Still, not a bad try. Re-rate at cafe De Rat, Utrecht: Liked it a lot more this time around, great smoked bock!
33cl bottle at home. Appearance: clear copper with medium off-white head. Aroma: smoke, soapy, wood, butterscotch, overripe banana and dust. Taste: medium sweetness and medium bitterness. Bottle from a Mitra shop in Lelystad. Smoked and wood-aged double Bock from this interesting Dutch craft beer company. Medium thick, regularly shaped, moussy, off-white head consisting of tiny and tightly packed bubbles, quite stable on the edges; deep brownish amber robe, translucent, bronze-ish with coppery hue. Aroma of sticky butterscotch, Kirsch, dry earth, wodka-soaked cherries, wet hay, soggy brown bread, wet oak (including something vaguely vanilla-like), damp tree leaves, subtle smoked wood, dried banana, old cloth, moist ginger powder, subtle hints of tobacco, thyme and mustard seed. Fruity onset, sweetish pear, apricot and blackberry with perfectly matching, counterbalancing sourishness, spritzy carbo (a tad too sharp for this style perhaps), minerally; nutty malt middle, restrainedly sweetish and caramelly with a softly bittering toasted edge, dried fruit aspects lingering, spicy phenols in the end, full mouthfeel, dryish. The basic dryness is accentuated in the finish by a confident dosage of spicy, earthy and leafy hop bitterness, the subtle smoky touch adding further spiciness but not accelerating into smoked bacon flavors, drying woodiness (quite a lot of tannins actually) and, eventually and correctly positioned, an afterglow of gin-like alcohol. Rich, dryish beer, fruity in a ’dried’ kind of way with certain Belgian (phenolic) aspects here and there; in spite of the added flavors of smoke and wood, the emphasis is still on nutty, dryish but round maltiness as is the case in the best German Doppelbocks. Nice malty aroma, sweetish, but also abit of smokiness too, quite rubbery occasionally. Deep red, persistent small tight tan head. Light palate for the strength, gently smooth. Sweeter taste, but not sugary. Some berry fruitiness, and a bit of smokiness that’s a bit rubbery at times. Covers the alcohol very nicely. Shame about the rubber, otherwise this would be top.

Such a beautiful smoky malty aroma, slight let down in the mouth, a bit too fizzy for the heaviness of the brew. Still rather nice.
330ml bottle (thanks Mart). Clear dark amber color. Medium size, beige head, stays. Woody, peat, smoked, grainy and rubbery in aroma. Peat, sweetish, smoked, faint sausages in taste. Peat and sausages in aftertaste. No sign of alcohol. Pleasant in mouth. Solid brew.

Bottle (from het biermoment). Pours red amber with beige head. Aroma is nice smoke, sausages, malt, slight alcohol. Flavor is sweet and bitter, smoke, malt, dryness, caramel, some grains, some oak. In short: smoked sweet bock.
Pours hazy dark amber-light copper with frothy light tan head. Moderate head retention, good lacing. Smoky, roasty, biscuit nose. Medium body, average carbonation, little crispy texture. Taste is smoked, raisins, caramel, malty sweet, Sweet aftertaste. Good.
Comments: a sweet smoked doppelbock, quite tasty.
Sweet and malty aromas of bread with an alcohol tinge. Pours dark dark brown with a dissipating tan head with massive lacing. Big round sweet and assertive tastes of brown bread and malt with a surprising hops finish that makes the taste journey complete. Medium carbonation. Very good. Turbid/opaque orange/brown beer with a slight/medium beige head.
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and wood; ends slightly dry smoke.
This beer is rather intense, deep and complex with loads of character. It is really unique and thus really stands out.
