(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, orangey brown with a neat, dense, beige head. Lightly burned malts in the aroma combined with a nutty whiff. Medium-bodied with burned malt accents, a little caramel and a fairly bitter finish. 210208 DuffMan (10270) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 17, 2009
On tap at the brewery. Deep golden brown with a thick cream coloured head. Aroma of chocolate and toffee. Nice flavours of chocolate and nutty nougat, subtle fruitiness that is hard to characterize. Mild bitterness, medium sweetness, medium bodied. I liked it. phaleslu (10099) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 19, 2009
Draft at the brewery. Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Aroma of dark dried fruit, vanilla, brown sugar, cocoa, nuts, and coffee. These all show up in the flavor as well, with a rich roasty character. Sweet and just a little bitter, nice complexity and balance. I liked this one most out of the Founders beers I tried, and I’m not sure if that’s because I have a natural propensity toward brown ales or if it was really the best. Either way, the rating should be higher than it is now. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 2, 2005
Dark brown with a thick creamy tan head. Malty aroma brown sugar, toffee, nuttiness. Flavour is also well-balanced, chewy biscuit malt, toasted nut, a bit of spiciness and some earthy yeasty flavours. A touch of fruit on the finish. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 11, 2006
Deep ruby red body with a light tan head. Meaty broth aroma. Smooth mouthfeel with some cocoa, a touch of smoke and some light piney hops, light to medium body with touch of yeast as well.

Bottle, pours a lovely mahogany brown with a think foamy light beige head. A good caramal malt aroma, slightly nutty. A smooth and nutty malt palate. Goes a bit "soft" in the swallow, losing a lot of its flavour and its mouthfeel, with the finish being rather thin and bland. Shame. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 17, 2012
Lovely deep brown colour with rosy notes in the base of the glass. A cream coloured head that sits on top of the beer with a bit of assistance by shaking the glass somewhat. Aromas of classic brown malts, biscuit and walnuttiness. The flavour reflects this in a cool, cameo-cream biscuit flavour but without the cream. There’s a curious grape-like acidity to this beer. Pleasant enough and good for session beer, not remarkable though. Stew41 (2021) - Phuket, THAILAND - DEC 31, 2006
Medium rocky head with good thick lacing. Clean dark brown in colour. Faint roasted malts on the nose with a slight metallic note. Note much happening palate wise; tough to pick any primary malt or hop flavours. Quite underwhelming (as it the quality of my notes!) Lunkie (1926) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - FEB 27, 2006
Grassy hop checmial aroma. Dark brwon red clear colour with good head and lacing. Malt hop chemical flavour. Flat palate. vanvenlo (1860) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - FEB 12, 2006
11 Feb 06 - Light sweet roasted malt aroma. Dark brown colour, Ok head and lacing. Smokey malt and nut flavour a bit too simple. A bit thin, with some bitterness and smokey malt finish.
