A Vienna style amber lager. A beautiful copper coloured beer, it is medium in body with a slight sweetness in malt and clean hop bitterness.

Bottled. Amber colour. Perfumy peach aroma. Sweet nose, short, faint maltiness followed by a dry, salty finish. Confusing...

(On tap) Clear, amber golden with an off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts and nuts. Fairly light in body - actually a little watery. Lightly sweet malts before a dry finish. Unspectacular. 300108

Draft at the brewery. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, sugar, hops, and roasted malt. Flavor was more of the same, and toasty. Sweet, and a little sticky. This one was the least impressive of the 5 I tried at Founders, but it wasn’t bad- just a bit too sweet without offering a whole lot else.

Bottle. Pours a clear medium amber with a chunky off-white head that leaves generous lace. Now this is going to sound really odd, but the aroma was quite vegetal and brought to mind tinned tomatoes. Thinking that it was the glass, I poured it into a new clean glass. Still the tomatoes thing. Ugh. Anyway, the flavour was much more pleasant-- toasty caramel with an earthy hop finish. Very low bitterness. A decent enough amber, but that aroma was HONKING man!

lightly doughy in an altbier kind of way. plenty of organic sourness. some sherbet and dirt

Very good!!! True to style (Vienna style lager), sweetish maltyness, with some nice resiny hops to back it up, tasty beer, from a very good organic brewer.

bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JAN 26, 2006
Clear but deep ruby red body with a light beige head. Some rings of lacing and reasonable head retention. Aroma is not the same as the palate cos I get good hop characters in the taste as well as a pleasant note of smoke whereas the aroma is more malty with maybe just a touch of a bushfire. The body is light to medium, a little sweet and a bit of mocha to finish. Wasn’t expecting much prior to opening this beer but was pleasantly surprised as the Vienna style is not one of my favourites.

I’ve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon.
Copper colored. Malty aroma with a sweet flavor and a hoppy bitter finish.

TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 16, 2007
Bottle, a reddish copper with a large frothy head. The aroma combines both rich malt and a hoppy kick. A sweet and earthy malt flavour, toffeeish with a drying finish.

Thin head - disappointing. Looks quite good in the glass; dark amber / copper. Attractive nose with big malt and yeasty notes, a touch confectionary like. Palate is a slight let down, no malty or sweet notes evidence despite the nose. Quite sharp, zingy and definately a hop driven style. Can’t complain about the refreshing notes but this beer is a tale of two halves, and a confusing on at that.
