Dark and Drinkable. A smooth and classic sweet stout. This dark rich brew is a combination of roasted malts and hops that bring the chocolate and coffee flavors to life.

Let’s say you up and decide to throw a wooden barrel of ale in a public display of manliness (I know, just go with it). How then to celebrate? Hint: You’re holding the answer. That’s right, a Dundee Stout. "Stout" is, after all, what brewers have been calling the darkest, heaviest and "burliest" of their ales since 18th century England. That said, ours is sweet, creamy and ironically, pretty light in texture. So maybe the tough part’s not lifting it after all. The tough part’s putting it down once you have. Go figure.

A black pour with dark red edges and a tan head. The aroma is mildly sweet with just a hint of roasted chocolate. The light to medium body has a oily texture with average carbonation. The taste is sweet, but there is a faint roasted coffee taste that develops late in the finish.

ChainGangGuy (4874) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - JAN 12, 2011
Appearance: Pours out a black body with an expansive, light beige head that soon settles into a scant layering.

Smell: Malty albeit mild nose, nothing particularly effusive here, but smelling of semi-sweet chocolate, sugary caramel, weak coffee, and an opened box of Sun-Maid raisins.

Taste: Sweetly toned tastes of both chocolate and caramel maltiness rounded out with roasted grains and a quick swig of instant coffee. Small, muted hint of licorice. Raisiny fruitiness. Essentially no real, appreciable hop character or bitterness, leaving it to maintain its sweetness throughout. Light flavor of roasted barley on the sweetish finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: A bit underwhelming, as nothing from the aroma to the flavor really grabs you. A simple, sweet stout, landing pretty light when it comes to overall taste, hop character, and body.

(12oz bottle thanks to blutt59) espresso/ruby pour with few tan bubbles. Nose of sweet chocolate, raisin, chocolate chips and cocoa. Started out well, but it didn’t taste like it smells. Taste is highly metallic, cocoa, and raisins.

FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 28, 2010
12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a small creamy light mocha head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with just a touch of roast. Super sweet, almost like milk chocolate candy bar and caramel. Flavor starts sweet and slightly promising but picks up some unpleasant stale candy and old sugary caramel notes that just don’t fit. Not nearly enough roast and complexity beyond chocolate. Mediumish body and a higher carbonation. Meh

Dark pour with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma, a little bit of hops. Sweet and smoky body, starts out with a milky sweetness, followed by a nice roasty flavor. Body is a little light, not a great stout, but another decent beer at a good price from Dundee.
