(Draught at Hopfenreich, Berlin, 25 Aug 2017) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with notes of citrus, orange peel, grapefruit and some tea. Malty, hoppy taste with citrus, orange peel, tea and a dry finish with a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with just a touch of sweetness. Fresh and tasty. Quite nice.

On tap at Alus celle in Riga. Fruity and sour aroma. The same for the taste. Bitter aftertaste. Rather untypical IPA

Difficult to say that the can be tasted, but something in the taste profile hints of other ingredients than simply malt, yeast and hops. There is a fruityness that should come from the guava, and it very nicely balances the otherwise piney hop profile. A very nice IPA

This is the Leo’s Early Breakfast IPA from Brasserie Dunham in Canada brewed in collaboration with Danish brewery Kissmeyer Beer. It’s an IPA coming in at 6.2% ABV and 54 IBUs. It’s brewed with Earl Gray tea and guava puree – interesting! It pours out a murky dark amber colored body with a big fluffy white head. There’s a bunch of yeast sediment floating around the beer – actually I don’t think that I’ve ever had an IPA with this much yeast in the bottle! It litterally is a ’breakfast IPA’ I guess. Bad jokes aside. The aroma is actually quite complex. I get a lot of juicy and piney hops, Cascade maybe? Some really fruity and sweet tropical notes, and then a bit of the Earl Gray tea underneath the hops. It smells really great, so let’s give it a go! The taste is a little bit piney and dank up front, you then get that herbal tea notes and fruityness in the middle followed again by a dry piney bitter finish. Really interesting stuff! It sure is bitter, and you definitely get the tea in there.
