Have to say that I always used Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale has my target point for judging Black IPAs... well, with this black IPA and the Imperial one from Dunham, they have become the top 2 Black IPAs in Quebec, and solids top 10 on my world list! Just what you want for a "one beer night" or instead of a Stout to finish it. Totally enjoyed this one!

Bottle 34.1cl. Poured into a chalice. Opaque dark brown, tall creamy tan head, half-way lasting, heavy lacing; aroma roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, dried leafs; taste in the onset medium sweet and bitter, middle part dominated by roasted malts, bitter chocolate, chalky, spicy notes; dry bitter aftertaste, lingering roastiness, chalk and ashes; medium body, oily to creamy texture, average carbonation; not a bad beer but for a bipa I miss the hops and way too roasty for the style.

Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts, dark malts, roasted malts, smoke. Tastes the same: malts, dark and roasted malts and again some smoky influences, hop bitter, malt bitter. Overall its too malt-forward and bitter and that smoky hint also is not what I really want to taste in a black IPA. Decent beer, but not great as a Black IPA imo.

Bottle 341ml, a dark beer with huge brown head and nice lace work. Nose is on hop resin, toasted caramel. Aroma is on dry black coffee, dark chocolate, very roasted, between oily and creamy texture, long roasted aftertaste, dry, ashes touch, hops part is low for a black ipa.
