341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass. 03OC12.

App.: Deep ruby-copper with a decent light-tan rocky foam. Aroma: Peppery notes, burnt sugar, lots of earthy, British malts, roasted malts, a touch of coffee, maybe a little floral and metallic, a bit resinous, not entirely successful. Palate: Medium+ body, fair effervescence, slick. Flav.: Lots of peppery burnt sugar, fairly earthy, a bit resinous, a touch of pine, quite a bit of roasted malt, could use from friendlier, fruitier, sweeter malt notes; dry with pretty good bitterness and a long, roasted, stark/stern finish.

Doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Fluffy beige head stayed on a lightly carbonated oak coloured body. Big aroma of dark berries, rye, demerara & malt. Medium body, prickly on the tongue but smoother down the throat. Clean on the aft. Malt, dark berries, stone fruits, dark sugar & very fruity tangy finish. Very similar to an English Bitter of old. Excellent Pint of Bitter!

Caramelly aroma, some rye spiciness. A bit thin. Reddish brown, small tight head. Rich spicy rye grain taste, sweet caramelly malts. Finish pleasantly bitter, quite herbal, a bit soapy, woody. Medium full palate, some of which is residual sugars. Decently woody bitter.
