A steady pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a five-finger thick, including some above the rim, pale tan colored head. The beer is a light honey looking color that shows a brilliantly clear, orange-gold hue when held up to the light. The beer smells of dried straw, fresh threshed grain, sun baked pale grain crackers backed by light notes of pear, and some floral apple notes, as well as some spicy, peppery, herbal, and musty, earthy, fermentation character. The beer has a spritzy, peppery, effervescent carbonation that matches nicely with the light body. There is a sweet grain character to the finish here, despite the beer being quite dry overall. There is a solid spicy, fermentation character that contributes flavors of pepper, spicy, green herbal notes, perhaps even a touch of menthol. There is a solid grainy character here, definite sunbaked straw, light cracker like notes, and a touch of rustic bread like grain; this balances a fruit character that is floral, pear like, with a hint of apple, and has a bit of a green, tropical character to it. There is a light acidity to the finish that accentuates the fruit character here, and it melds well with a solid, lightly biting, hop bitterness.
This is a more than solid Saison; it doesn’t have the grain complexity that regular Saison Dupont does, but that is to be expected, though it happens to be quite a bit more tasty than a lot of Saisons out there.

Pouring at Where The Wild Beers Are 2015. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head. Soft musky grain on the nose Medium bodied, funky. Musky and slowly developing with grain into the finish.
