This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties. There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

33cl Bottle @ Bodecal, Malaga, Spain. Dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, licorice. Taste follows the aroma. Medium body, average carbonation.

Zwart bier met weinig beige schuim. Geur: geroosterde mout, broodkorst, ietwat kruidig. Smaak: geroosterde mout, licht bitter. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: geroosterde mout en wat nootachtig. Eenvoudige, niet zoete Belgische stout.

Bottle from Bacchus Cornelius, Brugge. Black-brown with a small head. It's an understated stout, with an underlying sweetness to it, with more dark malts rather than roasted ones. It's nose points to a strong ale, but it's fairly light textured when drunk.

20-01-2018; bottle; drank in Voss, Norway (bought at Saveur Bière). The looks of the beer are nice. The beer is really foamy. A thick layer of light brown rough foam is easily poured. It is rough, but soft. Foam retention is rather high. The beer has a lovely dark ruby red/brown color. It is not so dark that it approaches black. For a stout, it is quite light. But, furthermore, is is quite nice. The smell of the beer is fine. It is quite mild for a stout. I smell some creamy malt aromas. They have some sweets, creamy aspects, some fruity notes, and some touches of roast. There is a hint of coffee and chocolate, but this is very mild. It is more imagination than that it is really there. There is a yeasty touch to, which is a bit spicy. Not bad, but for a stout a bit...weak. The taste is pretty much the same. It is a bit stronger though. Sweet malts, with a hint of coffee and chocolate, but now with clear smokey finish. There are some touches of liquorice to and some fruity notes. Hops give some simple floral notes and some bitterness. The beer is in balance, but it is a bit weak. Yeast gives a creamy touch. The palate of the beer is fine. Medium body, smooth and low carbonation. The finish of the beer is fine to...some dry hop notes, smoke, a woody toch and some coffee and chocolate malt touches. The malts are still a bit weak. So, all in all, a nice beer but for me a bit to weak.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Delirium. Clear dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma medium malty (roasted, burnt, coffee, licorice). Flavor light sweet, medium bitter, coffee, chocolate, ending dry. Light to medium body, quite flat.

DavidSvinth (492) - DENMARK - NOV 26, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 26, 2017 Mørkebrun med lysebrunt skum. Dejlig kaffearoma. Smagen er tilpas bitter og smager tydeligt af brændt malt. Tør afrunding.

On tap @Ølfred - Aarhus Streetfood. Pours clear dark red, with small white top. The scent is weak coffee, while the taste is heavier. The taste is also interrupted by way too much water, and turns into thin coffee.
