COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a beer already brewed in the 1950’s by Dupont Brasseries. As Dupont has extra fermentation capacity now, Olivier has the luxury of crafting some new brews, or re-creating some old specialties.There were two test versions of Monk’s Stout, both at 5.2% abv. One was dry and roasty, and another is said to be a little more rounded. Monk’s Stout is available in 33cl bottles and 20 liter kegs in Belgium.

Demens (499) - Budapest, HUNGARY - DEC 25, 2016
0,33l bottle. Hazy dark colour with lots of yeast drops with medium lasting beige head. Aroma: Interesting. Very different from a typical stout. Quite funky with matured cheese notes with hiding caramel tone. Taste: Wow. The taste also very different from a stout. More like a lambic. The yeasty caracter dominates the sip. Has a tart start with a medium bitter mouthfeel. The coffee tone shows some stout caracteristics but otherwise it’s quite different. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Medium lasting bitter finish. Very different from the UK/USA stouts, it’s like a lambic/stout hybrid.

In short: dry stout.

Pours black with frothy tan head. Short head retention, poor lacing. Coffee, nuts, wet, leathery nose. Medium body, high carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is roasty, some coffee, nuts, licorice. Some harsh due to overcarbonation.

Hatalmas, tömör, bézs, tartós hab, fekete szín. Csokis, aszalt gyümölcsös illat. Kávés, csokis, malátás ízek, némi orvosságos fűszerességgel, markáns keserűvel. Könnyű testű, közepesen szénsavas, erősen keserű. Ehhez a kombinációhoz jobban illene egy nagyobb test, így sajnos nincs elég összhang.

Bottle. Black with a creamy beige head. Smells of chocolate, cocoa and butter. Taste dto plus very dominant hops. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel could be a little bit thicker. Ok.

07/12/2016 draught @ Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Dark brown to black with small creamy head. Nose is gently roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is creamy, roast, dark chocolate, some licorice. Not very outspoken but nice and easy drinking stout. Could srink a few of them

Dark brown body with a huge , creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with nice lacing.
Moderate-to-heavy malty (roasted) aroma with notes of coffee and dark chocolate.
Moderate-to-heavy bitter flavour with a moderate sweet character; long lasting bitter/dry finish with notes pf coffee and dark chocolate.
Light-to-medium body with watery-to-oily texture; soft carbonation.

Barwa czarna, piana ładna, długo utrzymująca się. Aromat kawowy, kwasowy, czekoladowy, W smaku wytrawność i paloność, kwasowość na finiszu. Brak większej struktury. Jak na stouta bardzo słabe piwo

Cookies, malts, maybe a tiny bit of black licorice on the nose. Lots of head, dark. Slight sourness then bitter chocolate and dry hops. Back of the mouth bitterness with little to no sweetness. Interesting. Not bad but not what you usually expect from the style. It’s one thing that the dry hops are primary here, but the malts are almost completly unapparent. A tiny bit of roasted nuts and annis in the finish. Worth a try but not your average stout.

Výčap Moeder. Tmavo hnedá až čierna farba, hnedá pena. Vôňa pražených sladov, kávy, kakao. Chuť pražené sladý, tmavá čokoláda, kakao. Ľahko piteľné, ale prázdnejšie telo.

Tap at Moeder. Relatively dry, finishing with notes of roast. But in the beginning and middle it feels thin and empty. Thin bodied. Easy drinking, but there could be more in a stout.
