Bottle from Decicco Ardsley. Hazy dark copper with nice head and lace. Spicy herbal sourdough aroma with a hint of skunk and a touch of smoke. Subdued fruity sweetness (cold) witha touch of honey vanilla with herbal hoppy dry finish and slight lingering toffee smoke. Excellent. 77ships (11482) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - APR 27, 2013
Sampled draft @ ZBF 2013. Intended for export usually apparently – nice to get to try this one too. Hazy orange caramel appearance with a fading white head. Nose is sweet malts, caramel, touch rye and all-grain bread, somewhat herbal with spices, fruity, interesting & different. Taste is bitter herbal, rye & all-grain bread, caramel, thick malts, hint sweet liquorish, spices, even a hint of soy sauce, quite bitter EU hops, lightly fruity. Creamy body. Very, different and special indeed, glad to have tried this one. Jerre (3857) - Waregem, BELGIUM - MAY 22, 2013

Draft at Eulogy, courtesy of kkearn, thank you sir. Flew up to Philly just for this beer. From Idaho. Hazy golden color, tiny white head. Arona is typical of the Dupont teroir, with dusty and sour banana bubblegum. Taste is barnyard dust, animal parts and hay. Delicious. 750ml bottle. hazed orange-amber body with a tall-building off-white head. vivid esters all over the nose, it’s fun to smell this one after seeing it in such poor shape on tap last month. the clean foam dish soap esters have a soft and rustic nature, and combined with the brown malt and vibrant hop aromatics, it’s quite the appetizing smell. the approach is high effervescence and semi-sweet toasted grains, turning more dry and bitter, and more layered, as it crawls back. washing acid and prickly white pepper phenols do a marvelous job scraping the tongue, while musty pollen-like hops prick the tongue. toasty grains, dried leaves, a bit of bark, etc.; wonderful malt throughout. quite good overall, and in fantastic shape; I’m happy to have tried it again. probably one of the biggest score differences I’ve experienced between draft (3.0) and bottle (4.0).

previous rating: draft at Hopleaf, Chicago. murky dull brown. heavy caramel and toffee malt presence gives it an unexpectedly strong malt extract syrup and nut flavor with any Belgian yeast character (light mushroom, dough and spice) taking a back seat. low bitterness, medium sweetness, low acid.. flabby and lifeless body, I’m sad to say. a touch of browned banana and overripe peach show up to play but it’s almost all semi-dark / amber malt syrup. (3.0)
Draft at Jerry’s. Pale amber with big. foamy, beige head / Elegant, complex nose of sour malt, caramel, brett, and orchard fruit / Medium body, a touch watery, smokey, with good balance and bitter finish / Flavors of smoke, caramel, apple, pear, dried green herb, and hay / Resolve the weak body issue, and this would be terrific.
