Bottle conditioned; has sometimes been available in the cask.
This barley wine is golden in colour with a luscious malty body. A complex blend of hops give an interesting depth and balancing bitterness. The finish lingers with a rich warmth. Something very special. Smooth deep malt blends with bright hop flavours. A hint of pear drops come from higher alcohols.

My bottle shared with HogTownHarry and tupalev. Pours a hazy orange with little floaties and a large lasting white head. Sweet aroma with lots of fruit, sweet malt, yeast and a good amount of hops. Flavours malty and fruity with a somewhat bitter finish. Alcohols well hidden. Medium to full bodied. Very good, I really enjoyed it.

Medium offwhite head. Clear brown body. Sugary caramelly aroma with spicy cocos and raisins notes. Sweet, and faintly dry, cocos and alcohol taste with spicy grape notes. Full-bodied. Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Sweet-dry caramelly toffee and alcohol aftertaste with spicy cocos notes. Interesting and drinkable, but could hide the alcohol better. (0.5l bottle, from House of Trembling Madness, York.)

A Mes rate: Bottle from the Bottle Shop in Bramhall. Was hoping this would be good and it most certainly is. Orval like colour with a good white head and a luxurious consitency. Beautiful smelling beer. Malt, yeast glorious amyl nitrate like alcohol and some delicate hops and caramel in the background. Flavour is a really mellow (in comparison to others of this style) drinkable barley wine. Barley is offset by some nice grassy hops, almost perfumey at points. Alcohol is clearly there but just adds a bit of warmth at the edges and a slight spike at the finish. Pronounced bitterness at the end with clear toffee. Great body, really good balance, like it a lot.

500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Bottle conditioned. ABV is 8.4%. Deep golden colour, huge head. Lovely aroma of hops, orange and oak. The flavour is hoppy and fairly sweet, notes of bitter oranges and spices, the alcohol is noticeable. Bitter finish and aftertaste. Must be a great accompaniment with mature cheeses. Nearly too powerful on its own.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - BBE Feb 2016, at Kittys, 20130725) The beer poured reddish brown and clear. Its heaf was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had malts, alcohol and caramell. Palate was almost full bodied and dryish with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, sweetness, hint of saltiness and low bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. The beer left a harsh feeling.

Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboys bottle from England. Deep cloudy gold/amber, tiny black floaties, large lasting frothy white head. Dry aroma, peppery yeast, wheat, alcohol and a little cereal character. Taste - very nice, very smooth and balanced, soft; grainy malt, hints of apple and other fruits, herbal hops and lots of em. Soft, average body, mild carbonation, somewhat astringent, mild malt body that lasts a good long time. Well done.

Countbeer (6243) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - SEP 30, 2011
Bottle: Small off white head on top of an almost clear orange colored beer. Smell malts, nuts, herbs, leaves and something light creamy. Taste is a soft and smooth mix of malts, herbs, caramel, cream, light toffee, light clay, low bitterness and a light touch of dryness. Soft maltyherby caramelish aftertaste. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium body and a soft light sticky texture.

500 ml bottle. Pale golden brown body with a white head. Very nice aroma of fruit, hops and some malt. Flavor is malt and dark fruit with too much raw alcohol to be pleasant. Not in balance.

500ml bottle pours a golden orangeish color with a small white head which leaves very few spots of lacing behind. Aroma is earthy and nutty with a hint of fruit and alcohol. Taste is malty sweet with a hint of nuttiness and earthiness and traces of alcohol and hops in the finish. An ok barley wine, but a little lighter on the alcohol than I am used to in this style.
