Aromas are light and sweet with alcohol vapours. This is a, shall we say, relaxing beer that is smooth for its percentage and without much bitterness. Light and fruity for its strength. Far better than the malt-liquour rubbish. SilkTork (5777) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - JUN 25, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2011 June, 2003 Bottle conditioned. A smooth barley wine with some nice dry sherry soaked oranges. Well behaved. A little smoky in places. Good, but not outstanding. [2.9]anders37 (26824) - Malmö, SWEDEN - SEP 7, 2006
Sept, 2011 Bottle from Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop in Durham. Lovely. There’s a whiff of vinegar and paint stripper on the top, which adds interest to the smooth, malt accented sweetness. This is an easy drinking strong beer. Good toffee and caramel body - positive awareness of alcohol which swirls all over the place. This is a seductive and intoxicating beer. It’s pretty much what you hope and expect a good barley wine to be. Yes. Lovely. [3.8]
Bottle. Hazy copper colour with a longlasting off-white head. Malty fruity hoppy aroma with some hints of citrus. Sweet malty, yeasty and fruity flavor. Dry bitter warming finish. Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAY 2, 2007
The color is warm and golden, and on the dark amber side. The head is nice and the aroma has notes of fruit, roasted malt, caramel and alcohol. I get the same notes in the flavour, that also has a nice citrussy hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is oily. It’s a nice BW, but I’d like a bit less alcohol in the flavour. daje (4436) - NORWAY - MAR 21, 2011
Bottle shared with esp0r at Tre Små Rum. Hazy amber to gold color, tiny white head. Aroma of honey, malt and some hops. Honey is also appearant in taste, with a mild hop finish. Perhaps a bit too carbonated, but not a bad beer

500ml bottle pours a golden orangeish color with a small white head which leaves very few spots of lacing behind. Aroma is earthy and nutty with a hint of fruit and alcohol. Taste is malty sweet with a hint of nuttiness and earthiness and traces of alcohol and hops in the finish. An ok barley wine, but a little lighter on the alcohol than I am used to in this style. hawthorne00 (4034) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 16, 2011
Bottle, 13C. Amber with an off-white head. Aroma of oranges, honey, cough drops, toffee, spiced dough. Quite syrupy. Complex malt flavours with some sherry, oranges, pears, butterscotch before a drying spice and pine finish. Alcohol sticks out a fair bit and partially obscures some of the nice things going on here. Martinus (4685) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - MAR 7, 2012
Amber colour, white, quickly deminishing head leaving no lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel, peach, nuts and perfume. Flavour is sweet malty, light hops, citrus peel, honey, caramel, fudge and brown sugar. Quite slick, light cloying sweetness, quite like honey. Finish caramel and citrus peel. Not bad, but expected a bit more.

(From 500mL bottle @ home)
A clear golden colored beer, with a thick foamy white head. The aroma of fruits, like apricot, citrus, also malt. The taste of sweet fruits notes of liquorice and hop. The aftertaste has laurel with bitter notes. Davros (3246) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 13, 2012
Pours dark amber with a large, lasting white head.
Nose shows orange marmalade, caramel, grapes. Reminiscent of cognac slightly. Interesting.
Very sweet flavours, some grape notes, a bit of booze showing. Somewhat similar to a tripel, the flavours are rather lighter than most barleywines.
Carbonation is too high for these characters.
