Opaque black color with a fluffy whipped head of light brown foam. Heavy aromatics and flavors of roasted barley, dark roast coffee grounds, unsweetened cocoa, and caramel. Strong malt aroma of coffee, cocoa, roasted wood, and licorice.
Pours pitch black with small creamy brown head.
Delicious malty flavor of wood, charred wood, chocolate, coffee, and licorice sweetness.
Full bodied with medium low co2, lingering burnt wood flavor.
Definitely on the roasty side. Some more sweetness would be nice to balance it out. Still a great sipper.

Bottled 2 months ago. Pours pitch black with thick tan head. Aromas of coffee, roasted grain, chocolate, molasses, figs and alcohol. Nice and smooth start but the finish is very flat and watery. Astrigent flavor dominates the palate. A bit too dry and young. More of the sweet bready malt, like Golden promise, mayhap and all the problems dissapear like rebels in Gulag. Bomber to glass. Black with full brown head. Overt roastiness with slight chocolate backing. Taste is coffee and chocolate. Deep roast leads to a high bitterness. Kind of like drinking a dark roast, cold pressed coffee. Not terribly complex, but nice enough.

On draft at Tap 25. It pours black with a tan head. The aroma has dark cocoa, coffee and a little toasted marshmallow. The flavor is smoky with caramel, burnt marshmallow, coffee and cocoa. Very full bodied with a burnt, smoky finish. Great stuff. GG (2332) - NorCal, California, USA - NOV 6, 2014

All the beers I had on St. Patrick’s Day here were really nice, and this was one of them. Their regular stout on nitro was outta-sight great, so was their Baltic porter, so this had to deliver and it did. A nice coffee aroma, with just a bit of dark chocolate, dark fruit and Tootsie Rolls. Flavor smacks you squarely in the jaw with a rich, roasty bitterness that doesn’t let up. Attenuated very nicely, with just enough sweetness left behind to really amplify the coffee aspect of the beer. I would have liked a little more chocolate in the flavor, with perhaps just a bit more sweetness, but then..I do love my impy’s to be on the sweeter side of things, and I know he wasn’t making this beer based on my specs. A decent imperial stout, not the best, not the worst. Pours a deep lack with a creamy tan head. Smells of coffee and cream. A big, thick tar-like russian imperial. too much for one in our party, even though 11-13% seems to be the norm and this was "only" 9.4. Chocolate, licorice, tar, adequate bitterness all in one big package. In smallish amounts, I really dug it.
