Hops: Saaz, Styrian Golding and Sorachi Ace. "Dry Hopped with Sorachi Ace. 2013 Selection"

Pours a beautiful clear gold, (as you would expect with Duvel). Large fluffy titanium white head that fades to leave good lacing and retains a little to the end. Good aroma, with the Sorachi ace really coming through, kind of bizarre when your expecting standard Duvel, but very good, with some effervescence also. Also getting alcohol, apricots and Belgian yeasty notes. Tastes strongly of Sorachi, which aren’t my favourite hop, but they work well here. The usual Duvel flavours are present, and seem some what personified, certainly a touch more body also.

27-05-2017; fles; at home (bought somewhere in Belgium), part of the Duvel Tripel Hop tasting competition. The looks of the beer are nice. The beer looks like any other Duvel beer. The color of the beer is golden yellow. The beer has a tiny cloudiness in it, very minimal though. It is almost clear. The beer pours a thick layer of crispy white foam. The bulk of the foam is rough and collapses quickly but a nice layer of rather soft foam remains. The smell of the beer is nice. It is completely different from the other duvel tripel hops. The sweeter malty base is pretty much the same. The hop bouquet is totally different. It is not as fruity as the other ones. No citrus, or citrus zest. There is some clack current, but mainly strong oaky and woody aroma’s. I even smell some red wine. There is also a herbal hint to the beer. Not bad. Besides oakwood, I also smell some resinous touches. Not bad, but I like the citric hop versions more. The taste of the beer is pretty much the same. The same malty base, and on top those hoppy flavours, that are pretty much the same as in the smell. I taste oak wood, some resinous touches...not much else. The beer has a nice sweetness, and quite some clear bitters and acidic touches. It is well balanced. Nice. The palate of the beer is fine. Nice medium body, smooth with a tiny sticky component, and medium high carbonation. The finish of the beer is nice. There is a nice touch of oak wood, some spices and clear alcohol. The finish is quite long. I like it.

Bottle shared by Maakun at my place. From tasting set. Thanks! Hazy golden with big soapy head. Sweet malts, marsipan, grapes, almond, essential mint oil, kiwi, bready, toast and butter. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body, average carbonation. Strange as hell, but an interesting trip. Nothing like a Duvel.

Bottle shared. Clear golden with big fluffy white head. Green apple, marzipan, kiwifruit, gooseberries, sweet grains, alcohol, grapes, dry almond, grassy, light lime, dank weeds. Medium sweet and under medium bitter. Medium bodied with quite some alcohol. By far the furthest removed of regular Duvel of every triple hop variant. It’s still nice, and yes interesting too, but the hop is a bit overpowering here.

Bottle "Duvel 3". A golden beer, a head is big and white. Aroma has fruitness of perries and apples, citrusfruits and herbs, hint of meat. Taste has fruitness, herbs, perries and exotic notes of Sorachi. Medium bodied, strong carbonation. Strong notes of Sorachi, and thusthe opinions are stongly varied, for me this is nice beer.

Rated a year ago and only entered now. Really fresh green hops on this. Not so much fruity but furry green leaves and intensely resinous. The precision of the sweet light malt and the hops come together with a lightning clap and its most impressive. It’s a big beer but manages to stay refreshing and light and finishes with a perfumed soapy flourish. Most excellent drinking.
