Duvel Tripel Hop is brewed with three hop varieties and each year the third hop is changed to provide its own unique taste and aroma. This keeps the final flavor profile surprisingly exciting for any true beer lover. For 2016 our brewers selected HBC 291 from the Yakima Valley in the USA.

By using three instead of two hop varieties to brew, we obtain additional hop aromas and an increased bitterness. The typical Duvel palate is enriched with HBC 291 hops providing fresh notes of citrus, black pepper, lavender and roses.

HBC 291 hops are added again during ’dry-hopping’, extracting additional hop aromas into the beer. The higher aromatic intensity rounds out the beer, backing the final alcohol content of 9.5%.

12-ounce bottle overflowed onto the counter and floor as soon as I popped the cap (another bottle did the same). Once the outflow of carbonation from the bottle settles, it pours slightly hazy yellow-gold with quickly dissipating off-white head, with some residual lacing. Aroma: honey, floral. Flavor: malt-forward (honey, butterscotch), some barnyard, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, and an odd wet cardboard taste (perhaps because bottle is post-date, which I suspect); there's a balancing prickly bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied. For me, not as good as the original, by far.

Bottle. Clear light golden beer good white head. Aroma: floral, light citrus, pils malt, fruit, pear, light touch of perfume. Taste: strong and warming, with light citrus sourness, alcohol, fruit, pear and lemon, light white pepper, very dry and bitter finish.

Nice beer. Lovely golden colour with a decent fizz to it but no head, reminds me a bit of a fine Champagne in terms of looks. The taste is of the typical French\Belgian brewer's yeast which is that sweet barley sugar type taste. The hops are quite bitter, but at the same time quite subtle, certainly not like in say a USA IPA. Some lavendar, honey, bitter capsicum and floral (possibly elderflower) aftertaste.

Where and how: mini tasting – b. 330 ml
Aroma sweet, somewhat muted, honey with mellow hops.
Appearance :
Top: large white top, long lived
Base: fine haze on gold
Palate : a bit chalky, mid bodied.
Taste: muted in character, hint of somewhat funky hops with some alcohol on side. Tad peppery top end. Expected more from Duvel.

11.2 oz bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, Belgian yeast, mild to moderate floral notes, the lavender comes through, light citrus fruit character, mild bitterness, a slight alcohol bite, good.

0,33 l bottle. Pours quite clear yellow with solid snow white lasting head. Aroma is floral, herbal, citrus, peppery, grainy malt, light honey and quite a lot of yeast. Alcohol is hardly noticeable. Taste is medium sweet, light to medium bitter. Body is full and rich, texture is creamy, carbonation is average. Finish is very long, spicy bitterness intensifies as it worms up and it becomes less pleasurable with temperature.

Good beer. Nice flavours. I missed flavours in the beginning, but then it became more aromatic. Smell like a honey, you can feel the hop! Spicy beer. That makes hoppy lovers happy. Little bit sweet. Bitter, then sweet

Pours golden with foamy white head. Some familiar duvel malt and hop aroma but with an extra kick of stickiness from goldings. Flavor is well-balanced and clean. Very light, almost pilsner-like malt for a beer of this gravity, Upfront has some mild honey sweetness, flower pollen, a hint of herb-like malt resin that grows and grows throughout. Finish is very mild bitterness, but lasting into the aftertaste, and herb notes. Very cohesive, good texture and palate - presents itself as its own style of hoppy belgian beer, not as some kind of frankenstein hybrid - well done.

Bottle. Amber beer with a whitish head. Earth and yeast aroma with light citrus and light summer fruit. Yeast and grapefruit flavor with spice and light tropical fruit. Medium bodied. Yeast and malt lingers with grapefruit and light summer fruit.
