Backlog, Multiple bottles with Pat over the years, there was a time when this was tasting really proper but mostly inconsistent the last few times I tried. Brown pour with a medium sized head. Notes of malt, raisin, brown sugar, dark fruit, apples, and banana. Really nice bier de garde when its on. gripweed57 (2793) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - MAY 7, 2017
From old tasting notes. Hazy orange copper color. creamy beige head. Assertive yeasty toasted malt nose. Sweet fruity malt flavor is complex and spicy. Delicious and flavorful. erickok (6037) - Leuven, BELGIUM - DEC 24, 2016
Light brown, small head. Quite filtered but okay caramel malts. Not so rich, quite simple. Disappointing. (75cl bottle from Saveur Bière) DarkElf (3066) - La Jolla, California, USA - OCT 19, 2016

So, when I drank this beer back in 2005, I proudly proclaimed it a very complex and unusual beer. Hmm, not so sure about all that anymore, but the fact remains that I still really enjoy this beer, even if it’s actually a pretty simple offering. Sweet and malty, with flavors of caramel candy, toffee, and brown sugar, the beer is like good pop music (almost an oxymoron, I know): simple, easy, not challenging, yet somehow for something that is candy-like, it’s still satisfying and fun. Aromas of sweet caramel candy, toast, toffee, and milk chocolate. Medium in weight with light-medium carbonation. Hazy to cloudy in appearance, the brown body is capped by a small, light-tan head that settles to a thin ring. Enjoyable!

I can safely say this is absolutely one of the most unusual and complex beers I’ve ever tasted. The aroma tells you that right off. It smells somewhat like a sweet malt liquor, but with a fairly strong orange scent. In the flavor, I get orange peel, bubble gum, a sugary sweetness, gummy bears, spices, and light bitterness. However, as the beer warms, I think the beer’s character really comes out. And I mean warming to room temperature. It’s a big bottle, so I have plenty of time to actually finish it. At this point, a really nice English fruitiness and caramely maltiness emerges in both the flavor and nose, and adds a degree of familiarity. The palate is sweet, but the light bitterness keeps it from becoming cloying. Dark amber or light brown color, it’s hard to tell because I’m outside the bar and my only real source of light is from the car lot across the street. Clear in appearance. Off-white head is somewhat bubbly and gradually fades to a dimpled sheen. No lace. I think this beer takes some getting used to as it’s just so odd, but with an open mind and a little patience to let the beer open up, you’re rewarded with a pretty nice beer with a flavor that will stick in your mind for a long time. Pours clear mahogany color with a very small head. Sweet malty aroma, mild cardboard-y notes, hay and some toffee, mild caramel. Sweet caramel flavor, toffee notes, malts, somewhat nutty. Soft carbonation, a bit too sweet for my taste.
750 ml bottle. BB 16/10/2008. Merci Timo A!
Reddish brown color with a small tan head.
Raisins, dark fruits, sweetness, some cardboard and mild malt in the aroma.
The flavor is dark fruits, sweetness, brown sugar and some musty notes.

Appelsin, lime og lidt andre frugter. Ikke så meget humle en fin juleøl, der nok skal drikkes til mad. BBHansen (962) - Køge, DENMARK - MAY 31, 2015
Bottle @ DØE. Appearance: Pours clear golden with short lived white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste notes: bread, a bit of caramel, anis and orange. palette: medium aroma, average carbonation, thin to medium body, average to notable caramel sweetness, low to medium bitterness, medium duration and a watery texture. Overall: a bit thin and not quite fond of the spice mix in this one.

Hmm, quite different but I don’t think it works! Pours dark copper w/ a tan head that leaves little lacing. The aroma is rather soft w/ some subtle hints of caramel. The flavor resembles ice tea. There is no hop presence whatsoever & it doesn’t really feel like a beer at all. I’m no expert on the style but this isn’t my cup of tea. Lol
