Coalface is a good name for a stout that is as dark as night. Unmistakable hint of chilli, good balance explosivedog (1614) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 16, 2017
On nitro at the Lumsden. Pours dark with a small brown head. Charcoal, little chocolate, some bitter coffee, lingering bitterness. Very smooth. Tasty. beer4eternity (226) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 10, 2016
On tap at the Dodson Street Beer Garden Blenheim NZ. Deep black hue with dark tan head quickly diminishing. Rich heavily roasted espresso, with some dark chocolate, dark dried fruit, charred woody aromas. Balanced sweet-bitter taste. Full body, very light carbonation, dry finish. Enjoyable. wrlangin (237) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - SEP 28, 2016
Goblet nitro pour at Smith's in Queenstown. Pretty average stout. Toasted barley with some hops. Mild sweetness. Pretty good.

Look it’s let down by a lack of body really, but this is cracking full of aroma of burnt or roasted malts barley and has hints of coffee and chocolate. Although I got some ’ash’ like things I thought this was a lovely bit of beer.. I really would have loved it to be fuller and thicker in the mouthfeel than I would probably marry it. Like that’d happen.

Restrained aroma in a black pour. A good example of the style with a tart tangy taste. mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 27, 2016
[8323-20160521] Cask. Roasted coffee grains aroma. Black body with a quick foamy tan head. More roasted coffee and charred wood flavour has a dry aftertaste. Full body. Interesting. (7/3/7/4/14) 3.5

2016-05-21. Very dark brown-black body, headless. Aroma of cocoa, dark roast malt. Flavour is odd, tangy lightly ashen bitter roast lingers, mild dark malt base. Average bodied palate, low carbonation. 7/3/6/3/12-13 On cask at Volstead Trading Company, Christchurch, NZ. DKL (250) - NEW ZEALAND - MAR 16, 2014
Everything you expect in a good stout. Very bold bitter chocolate, burnt toast, smoky flavours, I expect any stout fan would find this just what they were hoping for. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 7, 2013
The head is ok, the body black. It smells darkmalty, roasty. The taste is darkmalty, roasty a bit creamy. Bit boring
