(10/21/08) Draught at the brewpub in Philadelphia. Hazy amber color with a small white head. Aroma of smoked sausage, some malt, a bit of wood and caramelly hints. Rather smoky flavor with some light meat notes, malt, and a dry finish with some more smoke and faint hoppy and herbal notes. Medium-bodied. A good Smoked. Tap at the Blind Tiger. Pale amber beer with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly rauchy. Earthy and a little bit watery. Meh... tastes like dirty dishwater. Not really smokey... more like a thinly charry flavour. Thin-bodied and quite boring. Poured honey amber with a thin white head. The smoky aroma is nicely restrained and not at all overpowering. Also has fruity and very light spicy notes. The flavor brings a nice smoky punch. Burlap, jerky, burnt wood. Hiding in the background is wheaty malt and a fair amount of hops that linger awhile after the smoke has left. [Draft @ EB+B] Poured a lightly hazy, dark golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked wood, toasted malts, wheat, citrus, and light toffee. Draft at the Brew Pub. My personal favorite of the trip. Light Amber body with a 1 finger off white heat. Smoke peat malt, char and campfire aromatics. Light fruity esters and a lightly smoke flavor. Solid offering.

Pours a deep coppery amber with a nice carbonationa nd fluffy slightly off white head- somewhat diminishing. Aroma is nicely smokey with some good racuhmalt pressence- cindery like the cinder bock, earthy doughiness and a nice wheat yeast estery character Good doughy wheat mixed with campfire, and smoked meats- get a bit harsh but not too much in a bad way- estery fruity, and a raw smokey finish. On tap opening night. Pours a lightly hazy copper orange with golden notes and a medium creamy/bubbly white head left some lacing. Aroma of smoked meats, woody, campfire, light wheat and citrus notes. Flavor of smoked meats, campfire, Cheerios, wheat, light citrus notes and some hop flavor. Draft at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours a clear deep orange with no head. Aroma of light smokey notes and sweet malt. Flavor is smokey initially (just smoke, no meats) but the smoke doesn’t really blend with the underlying malt. I also got some milky, odd, nasty notes. This was pretty bad.

Tap at the Blind Tiger. Exciting to see this stuff showing up outside of the brewery already. However the beer was very disappointing. Dead pour, ugly orange, no head. Aroma is hammy, meaty, freshly lit matches. Some dry smoke and tar flavor is met with a surprising amount of bright hops that clashes with the smoke. Like a hoppy version of cinderbock. Very meh. Amber color with a medium head. Aroma is big and smokey with some roast, BBQ, and sweet wheat. Flavor is dynamite! Awesome roasty flavor with some light wheat and lots of BBQ/grill tastes. Smooth and satisfying finish. Would be awesome just on taste alone, but it could be the best 4% ABV (or less) beer ever. I love this stuff!
