Big Hop IPA – the first of the brews from Pittsburgh’s newest and MICRO-est microbrewery to hit the streets. Truly, a hopped-up American IPA with loads of Centennial and Cascade hops, and just barely enough malt backbone to balance it out. Our flagship brew.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2008 draft- cleanser like hop flavor that is a bit puckering, along with a strange wild belgian yeast thing going on. Would not go to again. Editors note: communicated with the brewer who expressed concern that the place I had the brew may have had an old keg or had not properly cleaned their tap lines. Judging by solid reviews below, this may be true. Will re-rate and give another chance. This may have been an isolated incident.

Draft @ Hop House - Pittsburgh. Cloudy orange color wit a sticky lacing head. Malt sweetness in the aroma with some fruity hops also. Flavor begins a nice mixture of malt and hops, then leads to a burst of hop bitterness and resinous finish. A pleasant surprise.

On tap at Pittsburgh Westin Fish Market. Pour was cloudy, deep golden. Persistent head. Aroma of big earthy, citrus hops, fresh malt. Taste is awesome! Palate very smooth, nice hop "bite". Medium light body. Beautifully balanced hops to malt. Wish I had picked up a few growlers to take home!

Cloudy copper body with a white head. Smells grassy and bitter with a sweet malt back. Creamy smooth palate. Bitter resiny hops with a sweet caramel undertone.

This hazy amber pour smells great. Very nice citrus orange smells. The flavor is much more mild but very nice. It was smooth and just bitter enough.

Poured from a growler picked up at the brewery. Opaque, cloudy amber pour with a tiny, but attractive, head (growler is to blame for that). Nice aroma for the style, hits with less hop than I expected, more balanced toward with citrus and fruit, especially for an IPA. A well crafted pint.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2008 golden appearance with thick mouthfeel, flavor is odd for a ipa with a bitter hop flavor that is rather annoying. little crystal malt perception and no complexity, not a great hop flavor or aroma either not great

Sampled at East End. Poured cloudy golden amber in color with large sticky head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste is of good piney hops, grapefruit, and orange peel. Not over the top hops, but very drinkable and very nice.

Had on draft at mad mex cranberry. Pours a hazy amber color with froathy tanish head. Aroma and flavor a mild malty pine one. Not a knockout ipa by any stretch but drinkable.

Draft at Capones. Poured a dark orange amber body with nice head. Aroma is light hops, malt. Flavor is lightly hoppy with a sweet malty body, light caramel and sugar.
