Big Hop IPA – the first of the brews from Pittsburgh’s newest and MICRO-est microbrewery to hit the streets. Truly, a hopped-up American IPA with loads of Centennial and Cascade hops, and just barely enough malt backbone to balance it out. Our flagship brew.

Growler... Murky golden ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Excellent retention. The aroma is of black tea with just a rumor of black gun powder. Medium-bodied and very lightly creamy with soft carbonation. Moderate toffee and fruit sweetness; medium to heavy grapefruit pith and rind bitterness. Remarks of black tea and lemon peel. Crisp, moderately bitter, desert-dry finish. Thanks to cheapdark for hooking me up!

Beerman6686 (6607) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 12, 2008
Pours cloudy yellowish orange. Aroma is very hoppy, a bit misleading. Taste is also hoppy, but mellowed out by malts very well.

DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 19, 2007
Draft at Capone’s. Very turbid medium washed out gold color with minimal head. The aroma was hoppy, with pineapple and tangerine notes. The flavor was bready malty, with a solid hop bill, and heavy tangeriney notes, plus some floral notes as it finished. Nice complexity and very smooth.

adrian910ss (2590) - Doylestown, PA, USA - SEP 25, 2007
On tap at Zeno’s. Pours a hazy orange caramel color with a medium creamy beige. Aroma of grapefruit, orange peel and faint floral hops. Taste is slightly bitter with an orange/grapefruit flavor. Quite hoppy and enjoyable.

f351c4v (411) - Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 22, 2007
Pours a hazy, dark orange with a thick white head. Big, clean, fresh, piney hop aroma. Biting grapefruit body, slightly bitter finish. Not bad.

RiverHorse (457) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 1, 2007
On tap at Capones. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a decent head and lacing. The smell was very hoppy without the classic IPA scents of pine, citrus or spice. The taste was rather one dimensional, and mouthfeel wasn’t much more than bitterness. I love IPAs, but this one falls very short.

Glazed9884 (207) - USA - JUN 30, 2007
xxx oh how i love IPAs, all IPAs. this isnt the best IPA but its a good one still.

Nephilium (1821) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - JUN 27, 2007
On tap at Capone’s... Slight hop aroma of the C. variety. Poured a reddish amber with a thin white head. The flavor had a sweet fruit flavor to it, which was then followed by a long bitter finish. Drinkable, but there are much better beers out there.

MrBendo (1064) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - JUN 20, 2007
On tap at Capone’s. Taste was caramel malt and piney/perfumy hops. Very sweet initially. To sweet overall for my liking.

JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 20, 2007
Draft @ Capones. Cloudy, orange color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet with some grapefruit, pine, and a bit of bready malt. Taste is pleasantly sweet with citrus, some pine, and lots of sugary malts. Sweeter than most IPAs and very refreshing. Nicely done! If Matt keeps this up, I’ll never have to visit Pittsburgh to have some of the City’s best brews!
