651 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled, light beige head, with minimal lacing, over a clear, dark brown (SRM 30) body........nose is roasted malts with chocolate, lighter coffee, pine, resin, grapefruit from the hops, balanced......taste is mild hints of sweetness with light dried fruit tones and molasses, light chocolate, coffee, all from the malts, hops contribute light pine, resin, mild grapefruit tones and relatively light finishing bitterness, balanced between malts and hops.....mouth feel, medium body, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. This is a well balanced, and relatively mild representative of the style. It is quite easy to drink and compared to many others the hops were almost too gently used, with the gentle bitterness. On tap at the brewery in Frederick. Almost black in appearance with a lacy, light brown head. Mild aroma of dark chocolate, espresso and roasted malts. Similar flavor, adding some licorice, molasses and light alcohol. A bit of a boozy finish makes it kind of hard to drink. Meh. DenverLogan (1264) - North Bend, Washington, USA - JUL 29, 2013
On tap at brewery and from growler in Rader tulip glass.
Pours black with brown head and some lace.
Aroma of dark roasted malts and bitter chocolate.
Medium carbonation and strong mouthfeel.
Flavors of dark roasted malts, bitter chocolate, carob, slight chalk bitternes. Overall bold and perhaps more bitter than sweet as a black IPA should be...tasty enough that I brought a growler home. onceblind (10591) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Deep black with a thin ring of beige foam around the glass. Closing your eyes and smelling the aroma, you could forget this is a black beer. Tropical hoppiness like papaya and floral resin, with a sweet malty backbone of caramel and toffee. Flavor starts semi-bitter with pine and floral flavors, quickly mixing with a deep malty caramel and roast malt tone, a touch of smoke, and finishing slightly piney and roasty-sweet. cubs (10714) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - DEC 18, 2012
Tap @ Echo. Pours a reddish, dark brown appearance with a tan head. A bit min/piney, caramel, chocolate malty aroma. Pretty roasty, bitter piney, herbal hoppy flavor with some booze and a fair amount of bitterness on the finish. The abv is tuned a bit too high for me on this one.

Appearance: Black with a small beige head
Taste: Toasted malts, bitter pine and herbal
This wasn’t right, hope to try again when it’s fresh and rerate. Last session of gabf.
Pour on tap at Art and Ale festival, dark brownish black pour with off white head, aroma has chocolate, caramel, toffee, some hints of pine and grassy notes, slight odd berry note in there. Taste is a mix of chocolate, coffee, hints of roast, touch of berry, orange, and grass and pine, finishing fairly bitter but slightly sweet. Ratman197 (15372) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - AUG 26, 2012
On tap at Echo poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of roastiness, grapefruit, pine and earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, pine, grapefruit and earthiness with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty finish. brokephibroke (315) - Mead, Colorado, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Nice job. Dry hoping kicks this black IPA into legitimacy. Nicely balanced, one of the better black IPAs I have tried!
