As the winter sun hangs low in our sky, some 93 million miles away, solar filaments, giant arcs of cool, dense plasma explode from its surface. Filament Winter IPA celebrates this cosmic wonder. Pale, Munich and Caramel malts create a rich malt character with a honey-like flavor. A bounty of Crystal, Chinook and Centennial hops combine to lend spicy, citrus hop notes.

22oz bottled on 12/09/13 - I haven’t been very excited about anything I’ve tasted from Ecliptic so far so I’m hoping this bottle would change that. Like most of Ecliptic beers Filament drinks really malty and sweet with spicy bitter hops in the finish. This beer was bottled two days ago! The fresh aroma and flavors of honeycrisp apples, rosemary, pepper, and deep citrus are pleasant. Filament is a well made IPA but in a flooded market of hoppy beers I would not buy this again.

Nice, slightly spicy IPA. Pillowy head with pretty fair retention. Well balanced and smooth for a +7abv brew. Canned just about 5 weeks ago, so joyously fresh. I’ll be drinking more of this one.

Bottle - Bright citrus peel and some light herbal notes. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Citrus and some bitter malty notes with a touch of herb.

650ml bottle @ Matt’s. Pours a hazy amber colour with a creamy head that. Nose is sweet, herbal, and what I suspect is a citrus note. Flavour is just a bitter mess of no. I’m sorry, there is nothing redeeming here.

beerplace (2288) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 30, 2017
650ml bottle at Matt’s. Pours a hazy amber with a tan head. Aroma is sweet with some strange herbally notes. Same very weird taste. Baaad.

Oakes (19370) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 30, 2017
Hazy, amber. thin head. It foamed right up, and ends up being quite infected on the nose. Not sure what’s up, but it’s infected. Burnt electrical wire and phenolic paints and shit. Fizzy. Same infected issues. Yikes. Can’t drink this.

mcberko (19809) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 30, 2017
22 oz. bottle, seems infected as it pours a cloudy dark orange with a massive beige head with too good retention. Aroma is loaded with spicy hops, tons of yeast, and sulphur. Flavour is very yeasty, with earthy hops, muddy yeast soup and sulphur. Obvious something wrong with this. Not impressive.

CObiased (562) - Bayfield, Colorado, USA - FEB 26, 2017
Bomber - it pours a clear golden amber liquid with a thick straw colored head. A malty aroma with a citrus hopped overtone. Decent hop bouquet with notes of citrus and pine. Generous malts (caramel and bready) for an IPA. Long lingering bitterness.

Fatehunter (2640) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - DEC 30, 2016
Pours a finger of head on a hazy darker straw body. Aroma is candied lemon and pine. Nice. Taste is grainy, some spice and malty. Texture is crisp.

luttonm (6956) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 9, 2016
Citizen Six, Seattle. Thick foam, light hazed brown-orange. Big, punchy pine hop and winter spice. Warming, bitter, full hops and a lovely big malt body. Really tasty and well done execution on concept.

ajnepple (7338) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - APR 2, 2016
22 oz bottled 4 months ago, purchased at Bullfrog Wine & Spirits. Hazy amber appearance with a fluffy, lingering beige head. Aroma of toasted grain, pine, grass, light caramel/toffee and nutty malts. Pretty similar in flavor, adding a light spicy, moderate bitterness and balanced by a light to mild malt sweetness. Medium bodied and pretty easy to drink with a light dry finish. Not bad, drinking much better than their Orbiter IPA of the same age.
