3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
10 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. I am not sure why this is listed as an Amber Ale, seeing this is an Amber Lager, and this beer is consistent with a marzen. Nonetheless, the aroma is sweet, toasty, and caramelly with some metallic lager yeastiness. It has a nice sweetness in the nose, which makes it rather quaffable. Mild-moderate hazy copper-amber body with a small, off-white head. Very chewy, toasty, caramel malts to start. Followed by some sweet flavors and a little metallic lager yeastiness. Pretty drinkable, and a treat for malt-heads.
Draught. Pours clear amber with an average, fizzy white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cereal, meal), average hop (flowers, grass), average yeast (sweat, earth) with notes of apple and pear. Medium bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. drjay44 (3712) - Salida, Colorado, USA - JUL 23, 2009
Draft at the brewery. Tasted 7/20/09. Pours a thinnish head, good duration, with attractive lacing over a clear amber body (SRM 20).....nose of toffee, bread, mild hop.....taste shows the malt backone with biscuit, bread....mouth feel is light. This hits the appropriate high points to be an Amber, but is not particularly complex, and is light overall.
