A collaboration years in the making with our friends at Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida. We have worked with, drank with and preached Cigar City Brewing for years. This is a special collaboration for us. In the spirit of Jose Gaspar, a Tampa Florida legend, we brewed an Imperial Porter for all our rowdy friends to enjoy.

Aged 12 months in Martinique rum barrels. Savor and enjoy the complexities of dried fruits, licorice, and rich rum warmth, all after a hard day of pillaging. Reflect on the bounties of the journey.. Gaspar´s adventures in a glass.

33cl bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. 10-09-2017.
BBD: 05 April 2019.
Rum barrel aged.
Pours black with nice tan head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Roasty, caramel, toffee, chocolate, vanilla, wood nose. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is strong alcoholic, sweet, wood, spicy, vanilla, creamy, cocoa, malt forward, overall sweet, with a little dry finish. Quiet good, maybe a bit too boozy.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Black beer with a brown lacing. Nose of rum, roast, soy, liquorice, some dark fruit, brown sugars, the lightest funky tint, bread... Flavours of rum, apples, light alcohol, bitter, rubber, vanilla, roast, wood, liquor, light chocolate, soy, light sweet liquorice... Aftertaste is bitter, roast, rum, wood, liquorice tint... Low carbo, silky creamy mouthfeel, close to full bodied. Delicious!

Opaque brown beer, goo tan head. Nose of dark malts and rum. Airy palate, fairly dry and with decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, modest dark chocolate. Nice rum barrel here, a rare thing really! Light wood,. Fruity rum, mild rum spice. Rum soaked dark fruits. Light semi dry finish. So many Rum barrel beers are not quite right. Here the Rum sits loud, proud and clear and yet well integrated with the dark malts. Nice one.

Habanero (5005) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - MAR 8, 2017
Bottled. Pours deep brown nearly black with an average tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, cofee, chocolate, wood, rum and licorice notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and slightly bitter. Medium bodied oily texture and soft carbonation. An excellent Porter. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Drank 16-2-2017 at Malou’s place (thanks Thijs!). The beer smells deliciously rich. Taste is very complex. Very good body: thick with ’soft carbonation’. Beginning is dark chocolate, quickly followed by alcohol, more dark chocolate, and rum is dominant in the aftertaste. Interesting. Good.

Bottle at home, 3rd February 17. Pours black, little carbonation. Aroma is rum, barrel, wood, liquor, molasses, liquorice. Taste is rum, liquor, woody notes, liquorice, leather, great. Bitter, some sweet. Great stuff.

Svartvit (1059) - NETHERLANDS - JAN 11, 2017
Bottle at home. Pours black with a nice thick creamy tan head with decent retention. Rum is quite present, adds lots of smooth sweetness to it, a little spicy kick, some tart fruits, dark chocolate, coffee, wood, caramel, sweet malts, bit of roast. Big sweet, medium bitter, light tartness. Close to full body, low carbonation. I remember having this before from draft at Mikkeller & Friends. Seems like sitting in a bottle for a while has mellowed it out a bit making it less boozy and more pleasant.

Erasmus_ro (3352) - Alabama, USA - JAN 7, 2017
Bottle. Pours dark brown, black, with a small, dark latte colored head. Aroma is rum, slight ethanol, roast, liquorice, salty and otherwise. Taste is roast, slight chocolate, rum dominates. Liquorice, roasted and rum. Salty liquorice. The barrel really dominates. Very rich. Perhaps too much for me in large doses. Even a small bottle is plenty.
