Our CHOICE OLD WALNUT BROWN uses Brown, Amber and our traditionally made floor malts in this flavoursome ale. At 6% it reflects the strength of ales being produced at the turn of the 19th Century. Using the traditional malts of our time, our ale has the distinct nutty palate, and walnut coloured hue, of this flavoursome historical style.

500ml bottle shared with Finn at Tuckers Maltings Visitor Centre. Solid lacing from a stable fawn-coloured head. Deep, rosewood coloured body. Aroma of herbal hops and walnuts. Mixed taste of nuts, dark fruits, chocolate and caramel. Sweet malty ending. Pleasing, rather sweet though (Newton Abbot 27.09.2016).

Bottle. Mahogany brown with tan head than thins but laces well. Malt and coffee aroma. Taste quite sweet also nutty with chocolate coffee finishing roasty bitter. Low carbonation. Thin to medium mouthfeel. It is not bad if you are a brown ale fan but a little too sweet.

Bottled at RBESG. Nut brown. Sweet and roasty with medium body. The mouthfeel is clean and rounded, it has notes of coffee and some vinuos character. Somewhat syrupy finish.

Appearance: Dark chestnut brown in colour with a small off-white head, good lacing. No visible carbonation. Aroma: Nutty roasted malts, with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Noticeable hops, with slight burnt aromas. Taste: Bitter hops on the palete at first. There are clear nutty flavours, roast chestnuts. The malts are toasty, and warming, providing chocolate flavours. Mouthfeel: Quite heavy in body, with a clinging oily texture. Drinkability: A good classic ale from a quality independent brewery. They have managed to provide an ale with brilliantly balanced flavours, and a moreish quality.

Bottle. (Thx to Papsoe) The copper-colored, almost clear body is topped by an off-white head. Slightly burnt aroma, with notes of coffee and a little oxidation. The flavor is roasted, a bit sweet and malty. Full body. The oxidation in the aroma is probably due to the beer being aged some months past BB-date, yet it is a quite good brown ale. (070510)

Nutty, earthy, floral and lightly roasty aroma. Clear mahogany brown with amber highlights is topped by very shy, large bubbled tan head that recedes rapidly to the slightest ring. Chocolate maltiness and orange blossom hops with fairly roasty dark malt bitterness. Medium body with low carbonation and somewhat watery texture. Seems like this could have been a very nice beer if the bottle-conditioning had worked. Bottle (BB 0306, Tucker’s Maltings).

Bottle conditioned. Clear dark brown with a sparse off-white head. Aroma is chocolate malts. Taste is the same with caramel and some fruit. The texture spoils it for me though, flat and watery.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy, nutty brown with a small, off-white head. Roasted, nutty aroma. Medium body with odd vitamin-like notes. Lightly burned edge while the finish is dry. 100507
