This beer is designed to challenge your preconceptions: it looks like a rich dark porter but tastes like a punchy IPA. This Black IPA uses Zeus hops from the Yakima valley and Ella hops from Australia. Think pine resins, citrus and tropical fruit aroma with a spicy bite. Close your eyes, take a sip and let your taste buds take over.

330ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a small head. Aroma is bitter coffee and cocoa. Taste is sharp to start with a cocoa finish.

Enjoyable black IPA with some earthy moments. Coffee, roasted malt and bit of acid in the back. Definitely full bodied with a nice and balanced aftertaste. To recommend.

McTapps (6984) - Reutlingen, GERMANY - MAY 1, 2014
Pours out of the bottle ( many, many thanks to beersiveknown for this nice one!) in a deep black colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of roasted hops and pine. Taste of fresh hops, dark grains, spruce, pine, citrus, spices and herbs. Easy and nice to drink with highly quaffable moments. Nice one.

Erzengel (9752) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - APR 24, 2014
BB 30 08 12, 330ml Dark black in the glass, intense floral in the nose. The beer starts intense, floral, a bit viscous. Nice hints of floralness and fresh hops over a body that is more a stout than anything else. Rich and creamy, thick till the end. Floral and slightly roasted ending, smooth bittered.
I won’t call it a Black IPA - it is more a nice dry-hopped Imperial Stout. --> 11/10/10/10

beerfest5 (1207) - Cloneen, IRELAND - FEB 19, 2014
Absolutely phenomenal BIPA. Pours a stout black with a nice tan head that last for a little while and leaving good lacing on the pint glass. Aroma of coffee beans, vanilla, grapefruit, citrus, some burnt toast. The striking part of this beer is the wonderful balance between that Porter-like roasted character and the American style hop notes. Delicious, much much better than the rating would suggest.

Sizzler80 (501) - Dublin, IRELAND - FEB 6, 2014
Pitch black pour with a smallish brown lid. Decent lacing. Malty, citrus, lemon, coriander, pepper, slight pine, catty. Chocolate, coffee with the hoppy bitterness providing the backbone. Some sweetness from the malts. Very good.

stravale (3145) - Co. Westmeath, IRELAND - JAN 30, 2014
Bottle from Drinkstore, Dublin [261213]
Black, thin dark tan head, light lacing
Aroma - Herbal zest hop nose, slight rubber on the nose, cut vegetable stems, car tyre, not liking the hop aroma in this
Taste - Bitter dry zest, herbal hops, some dark bitter roast, plant material, dab of burnt rubber, odd, oh this isn’t working for me
Palate - Soft carb, thinnish body, bitter hop, dry. Finish - dry bitter herbal hop finish, rather astringent
Overall - Oh I’m the only one here not liking this - the hop profile didn’t agree with my palate at all

culchiem (4237) - Berlin, GERMANY - JAN 2, 2014
Bottle. Reddish black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet hop. Flavor is dark roasted malt, dry burnt base with a hint of fruit. Texture is velvet.

Creedence (315) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 2, 2014
330ml bottle, present from a friend. Pours a dark brown with a patchy tan head. Burnt toast, citrus, marijuana aroma. Light woody sweetness, bitter and slightly smoked. Prickly dry and toasted finish. Tasty and complex but there’s something lacking.

elbernays (1731) - Dublin, IRELAND - DEC 30, 2013
Pours black with low tan head. Nice aroma mango, spruce, some spice. Sweet with nice sharp bitterness. Good beer.
