American and Bavarian craft come together with the finest Icelandic water to create the Viking version of the Pale Ale, where robust hoppiness meets smooth malty undertones. Cascade hops give it the American character, while Northern Brewer hops add just enough bitterness to make this Ale refreshingly Icelandic.

Bottle from Myvatn natural baths, Iceland. Pours a true clear amberWith an of white head which is moderately laying and leaves some blobs of lacing. Aroma is maltiness, subtle spice, soap and perhaps some caramel. Not really any hops. Taste is quite bland which is a little disappointing. Malty sweetness with a fairly mild bitterness. Moderate carbonation and a weak to moderate body.

It pours dark golden with an off white head. Head retention is moderate. Aroma is a bit musty with some caramel and somewhat of an herbal quality. There is caramel in the flavor with a hint of roast. It does have an herbal quality to it with slight spruce and grass. It is moderately bitter with the overall balance favoring the malt. It has a slight bite to it as well. Overall, this is a ale balanced toward the malt but with a decent level of support from the hops.

Bottle. Light amber, very clear with medium, white and not very stable head and some lacing. Aromas quite light, some pilsner and iron tones with hops coming out later on. Taste is sweet, malty with quite pleasant, oily mouthfeel. Medium body and light to medium bitterness, (too) high carbonated. Acceptable.

Bottle at the William Robert Loosley, High Wycombe. Light orangey amber with a light fizz and a thin white head. Cardboard is the most prominent flavour although rather sweet and clammy caramel and a bit of orange do make an attempt to get through. There’s no crispness, no freshness, no passion, no depth- this tastes like one of those cheap imitation APAs that the big brewers have started making. Having been impressed with this brewer’s doppelbock that I’d had previously, I was disappointed by how poor this was in comparison. Really didn’t enjoy this.
