With clear notes of espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of authentic Icelandic coffee, this Porter is dark and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate and easy to drink. There’s no need to be afraid of the dark anymore.

Bottle from Salling. Dark brown with tiny beige head, fastly diminishing. Aroma: coffee, roasted malts, burned caramel, burned sugar and chocolate. Taste of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Texture is watery. Fine beer for a good price.

Pours a very dark brown color. Not much of a head. A few big bubbles of cream color head, clinging to one side. Actually, it’s sounding up on the one side, but the rest of the glass has one. But boy, are they clinging, and not giving up. Strange. No lacing however.

Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Toasted malts. Malty, and clean. Some caramel, some liclkrice.

Taste is bittersweet, like chocolate. Toasted malt. Not too sweet, maybe a touch bitter. A touch smokey, or maybe it’s ash. A little molasses.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Very smooth, very clean. Could use a touch more body, but otherwise, excellent.

Overall, it’s a fine porter. Not quite what I expected, but still not disappointing. That odd head hangs on to the very end. I would recommend this, and I would buy it again.

Deep black color with a small, light brown head. Notes of cabernet, chocolate and dark coffee. Taste of milk chocolate, dark roasted malts and smoky molasses. Full bodied and creamy with thick, malty, bitter finish. This is a nice one, very rich and satisfying.

Pours dark brown from the bottle. The head is frothy and some lacing clings to the glass. Aroma is understated with both mild roasted and cereal notes. The taste has a mild roasted bitterness with some coffee notes. While medium bodied, the palate still feels watery at times. The water has a mineral rich taste. Drank this one after a particularly good stout, so I may be magnifying the flaws, but this one does not quite cut it for me.

GlasgowTAD (1768) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JAN 13, 2017
