This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

imdownthepub (14546) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 28, 2016
Bottled, 330ml aged 9.5yrs from the LeClerc Hypermarket, Vouziers, Ardennes, France. Clear amber with short beige head. There is a boozy, sherry nose to this on opening, there was still plenty of natural fizz to this but flattened out on pouring. Fruity, apricot notes, loads of alcohol and really very sweet. Warming on a cold frosty winters evening. It’s okay.

Kauge (1949) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 23, 2016
Bottle from Alcostock in Tallinn (€ 1.99). BB 02.05.2017. Pours clear, deep golden with a head that dissipates really fast. Aroma is pretty nice initially, strong caramel and malts, but gets a bit too boozy later on. Tastes less as attractive, cheapish, boozy, caramel most dominant, but it’s in a way quite attractive. Crisp carbonation, lightish medium body. Potential headache. Better than expected though. Film pairing: Jodorowsky’s ’Holy Mountain’.

z0live (6) - FRANCE - DEC 9, 2016 does not count

Imbuvable.

martjoobolut (4312) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - SEP 21, 2016
Bottle (from Alcostock). Pours amber. Aroma is sweet, malt, caramel, some fruits, and a lot of booze. Flavor is sweet and bitter, sugar, booze, malt, caramel, booze, some fruits, grains, some cardboard. Finish is booze and sweet caramel with some bitterness. Overall: not good, not good at all. More hobo style ESL than proper doppelbock.

calern (34) - - SEP 14, 2016
Clear copper liquid with small white head. Alcohol and caramel aroma. Sweet and bitter. Sticky with average carbonation.

yy0pp (1507) - - AUG 16, 2016
Bottle. Light copper color with small head. Aroma - Malty, fruity, alcohol. Taste - Sweet, malt, caramel, toffee, alcohol.

thirstyrabbit (1849) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - AUG 6, 2016
Bottle. Bronze body, head disappears to nothing quite fast. Aroma has sweet caramel, toffee and almonds. Full mouthfeel, a bit sticky but not syrupy like barley wines. Taste has almonds, caramel and big bready malts. Simple yet effective. Finish has alcohol heat and some sweetness but indeed, it never gets cloying. So for a 11% brew it’s rather well drinkable.

Marduk (7694) - Reval, ESTONIA - JUL 30, 2016
330ml bottle. Clear dark amber color. Foamy head at start, but disappears quite quickly. Sweet, alcohol, metallic, malty in aroma. Sweet, almost raisins, malty, nutty oiliness in taste. Alcohol in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Sweet and boozy, but not a horror. Good start for a day!
