COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A brazenly hop-forward beast of a beer, with a huge passionfruit nose. A subtle caramel character provides a malt backbone to shoulder the massive amount of dry-hopping that gives this beer its unique aroma and hop flavor. Two 5 Left is the runway that sends planes screaming right over El Segundo. We always knew we would name a beer after this local landmark and when it came to naming our first Double IPA, it fit the bill perfectly.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin. Hazy gold - amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and softish with fine carbonation. Smooth malt, touch of cream. Spicy hops also bringing light fresh orange. Whisper of aniseed alcohol. Smooth semi dry finish.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours clear gold with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds ripe citrus, orange, grapefruit; smells good. Medium sweet flavor with moderate bitterness, more ripe citrus, melon, grapefruit, some orange rind. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish with slight mineral dryness, moderate pith, more grapefruit, generic citrus rind. Pretty decent.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. Amber pour with a hits head. Strong caramel malt nose. Hot and toasty. Honeyed Lemon cake. Very bitter. Big bitter malt bomb American IIPA. Lemon, pepper, toffee. Little else. Full body, strong carbonation. Really not my thing.

Scopey (15431) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2014
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours hazy amber with yellow-white. The nose is pine, varnish, toffee, candied orange peel, mango, apricot and sherbet. The taste is bitter, pine needles, varnish, peppery grapefruit, toffee notes, warming alcohol sting and toasty with a dry, bitter finish. Medium + body and average carbonation. Pretty easy going for what it is. Perhaps a touch sweet, but solid anyhow.

Bottle shared with alexsdad06. Poured clear red copper color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a good beer that exceeded my expectations.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Best by 08/08/14. Mostly hazy orange amber color. Thin off-white head, leaves a couple bits of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation, more dry finish. Pretty easy-drinking and tasty for 8.5%. Good big resiny hop, get some of the passion fruit. Light spiciness to the flavor. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light sweet malt. Little caramel malt. Tasty, balanced double IPA. 8.5% is right around the sweet spot for me.

22 oz bottle shared with the group. Pours a clear orange golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have a West coast hop profile, caramel malt, some buttery toffee/butterscotch notes more with the flavor, mild bitterness. This is interesting in that it has barley wine like character. Is it age or was it intended to be like this?

Bottle pours amber with big head. Aroma is big juicy melon and citrus. Taste is very fruity with a nice semi sweet bitter finish. Great double

Bottle cracked by Bill, pours amber orange with small to medium head and lacing. Nose is juicy pineapple, grapefruit and pine. Flavor was sweeter than the scent but still decent enough. Some bitter hops and caramel malt. Mellows out as it warms. Not too bad ehh.
