Named after a precious for of quartz indigenous to only Morgan Hill, California, this classic dark ale is smooth and refreshing. Its dark color results from the use of caramel, higher kilned dark crystal and chocolate malt. The beer’s flavor is malty and fruity with a subtle roastiness. To finish Poppy Jasper is generously hopped with Galena, Cascade and Liberty hops for a perfectly balanced wonderfully complex character. Winner of the 1995 California Beer Festival Gold Medal; 1996 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal.

Draft @ Piaci Pub & Pizza, Fort Bragg, CA. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty caramel aroma with some grassy hoppy hints. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with some fruity hints. Has a sweetish malty caramel finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste.

Dark red amber. Subdued citric hop aroma. Relatively malty, clean, slightly spicy flavour, bitter finish. A very good beer that runs down far too easy leaving an empty bottle you wish would be full.
Thanks PsychProf for sedning me this beer!

Amber in color with a white head. Toasted malt, bread, toffee, and caramel. Light floral hop qualities, some hints of pine, and a little citrus peel. The flavor is very sweet and malt forward. Lots of toffee, caramel, and bread. Floral hops, light pine bitterness, and some citrus peel. A little too sweet for me.

Aroma of malt with some citrus. Browny amber color with light tan head - substantial head. Starts with malt, hint of sour, and that typical American brown ale taste, but a lite version. Some hop comes through at the end, but this is not a pale ale. A slightly hoppy amber, with brown ale nuttiness.

Bottle poured a clear dark amber with a small tan head. Aromas of carmel, biscuits and a hint of fruitiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of sweet malt, carmel, a bit of berry like fruitiness and ahint of some spiciness with a crisp lightly sweet finish.

hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 25, 2005
Poured a deeper and cloudy brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Softer aromas of nuts, caramel and hops. Tastes of light caramel, nuts, with a light grapefruit finish. Definitely a hoppy presence for a brown ale compared to the brown ales I’ve had of late.

daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - OCT 22, 2012
GABF. Orange pour, white head. Tropical fruit, toasted grain, honey and and some nutiness make up a pretty solid offering. The finish is lightly hoppy.

This beer rocks. I didn't take any notes while drinking it. However, if you like other brown ales that I have rated highly, you won't be disappointed with this one.

DocLock (11112) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 29, 2007
This score is way too high. Thanks to the wifey for this one. Pours dark brownish with medium sized off-white head. I got caramel malt, brown sugar, slight berry, and slight hops in the nose. The flavor was caramel malty, not sweet, with some brown sugar, and finishing hop notes. Not bad but overrated here.
