Nah. This reminds me of the pine needles I tasted in the Alba Scots Pine Ale. A bit like drinking a tree. I won’t say El Toro didn’t try. Only that they didn’t succeed. Much more of a pale ale than a brown ale (there’s no nuts here!). GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JUL 22, 2006
UPDATED: DEC 6, 2007 Draft. Clear copper color with off white head that laced the glass. Biscuity malt flavor with a nice flowery hop flavor accented by tangy spices. This one sat for a while and was better warm than cold. bhensonb (15194) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 7, 2006
Aroma of malt with some citrus. Browny amber color with light tan head - substantial head. Starts with malt, hint of sour, and that typical American brown ale taste, but a lite version. Some hop comes through at the end, but this is not a pale ale. A slightly hoppy amber, with brown ale nuttiness. brstp (201) - - SEP 26, 2007
On tap at City Beer Store in SF. Very nice orange-tinted hazy brown, no head was poured. Aroma is clean and crisp (not necessarily in a good way) with a little cucumber and nutty funk. Thin mouthfeel, fast-disappearing taste of bread, grass and malt. Good to try but wouldn’t get it again. hotstuff (5158) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - OCT 12, 2007
Draft at Jack’s Bar in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. Small ivory smooth head that was fully lasting, transparent, nice looking lacing, fast-rising carbonation, and a brown hue. Nose was malty, light hop notes, crisp and clean. The flavor was malty lightly hoppy, lightly bitter, crisp and clean tasting Tingly mouthfeel and light-medium body. So-so for the style, but not one that I would go out of my way for.

Draft @ Piaci Pub & Pizza, Fort Bragg, CA. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty caramel aroma with some grassy hoppy hints. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with some fruity hints. Has a sweetish malty caramel finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste. nickd717 (4691) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 24, 2009
Bottle from City Beer in SF. Clear orangish amber color with a small white head. Aroma of bready malt and slight citrusy hops. Flavor is malty with toffee, fruit notes, and a little diacetyl. Would be good if not for that slight off-flavor. RickTStiles (826) - Houston, Texas, USA - AUG 5, 2010

Tap @ Parrish Publick House: Clear amber color. Aroma of malts, celery and butter. Creamy flavor with a clean finish. A little mustiness in the aftertaste. Ok. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - MAR 28, 2013
Bottle; poured a clear orange/copper type color with not much head. Aroma of caramel, toasted bread, and fruit. Mouthfeel was a bit fizzy, but not too bad. Alot of caramel and toast, some fruit. Not amazing, but solid.
