COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This New American Black Ale, our darkest signature beer, has the malt profile of a Schwartz Beer and the floral characteristics of an IPA. Saturated in hops, this intrepid style offers smooth dark toffee flavor without the roasted bitterness.

Poured from a large bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a full, thick black color with a deep brown hue, and a huge foamy light tan head with very good retention, good lacing, and lighter cling. The aroma had a deep roasty malt presence with earthy hops, light caramel, touches of chocolate, and some light grain and cereal with an oak presence. Its taste was bitter and grainy with oak and a deep roasty toffee flavor with dark fruits, and lighter touches of sweet caramel and chocolate with a deep bitter oak and fruit finish. The body was thick and filling, and it had a somewhat creamy mouthfeel, which was very lively and fizzy with good carbonation, and was a touch dry and watery. Thank you Tom and Tracy for the Christmas present!

On tap at brewery. Pours amber-y brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity malt and light alcohol with some grain. Taste is toffee, molasses, faint fruit, a hint of tobacco, sweet dark malt, and a just a trace of piney hops. Alcohol burn in the finish. Light-medium body. Soft carbonation. Oily, coating mouthfeel.

commonmac (1263) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 4, 2015
Big bottle purchased by Noredskittles and consumed with said individual and commonshawn. 1990 Action movie themed night. Dark brown...basically cola color. Almost a full finger of tannish head. Aroma is subtle with nutty with roasted notes. Holds its head really well. Solid bitterness running throughout but the finish is well rounded. Little bit of sweetness like toffee or caramel. Better than anticipated...some good elements.

Big bottle with commonmac and Jason. Brown red with very thick foamy off white head. Sugary nose and more tart than expected. High alcohol aroma. High sugar. Yeast. Sweet, spicy, pretty good finish. I like it.

Deep black with a thick tan head. Sweet toffee and cranberry on the nose, strong but not overpowering. Pine hop bitterness is right up front and lingers for a while - cocoa and sweet dark malts with some earthy spice flavors as well. Nice and dense mouthfeel, really makes you salivate. A good, string (D)BIPA

Maris (1531) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - APR 27, 2015
From a 750ml bottle on 27/4/2015 (birthday present courtesy of my wonderful wife). Pours a cloudy dark brown with a medium head. Has a pleasant nose featuring some chocolate malt and light fruity hops. The flavour follows suit, with sweet dark malts (chocolate, caramel), some citrus fruit (orange), and a reasonably firm dash of hops, with just a hint of roastiness in the bitterness. Full bodied with a thick texture and average carbonation. Not the wildest big black IPA out there, but nicely balanced (though ultimately falling on the sweet side) and very cohesive.
