First Cast pours a hazy gold, with soft orange hues and white fluffy head that sits on its peak like the snow on the 14,000-foot mountains that are the backdrop to our microbrewery. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, and citrus hops as well as hints of caramel and fresh bread from our locally grown malt invade the senses. The beer hits with a smooth hop bitterness that tingles across the tongue with a lingering bite of mountain pine, grapefruit and fresh citrus notes. This beer is designed as an everyday brew for the craft beer aficionado, with a medium body and a high carbonation to refresh the palate.

On tap at a friend’s wedding, pours an amber with some white head. Nose has orange, some soap, some pine, fairly mild, a little grass, some toffee and malt. Flavor has toffee and bread crust, malt, orange, pine. Full bodied.

Bottle. Caramel malt aroma with notes of pine and citrus hops. Pours golden colored with a moderate white head with good retention and some lacing. Starts with good caramel sweetness as well as some grapefruity citrus. Finishes very smooth for an IPA with only a hint of dryness and mild pine and citrus hops. Smooth, refreshing IPA.

average ipa...super piney and hoppy with almost no citrus flavor. very bitter and hoppy aftertaste. smells hoppy and piney. earthy. had in colorado where it is made.

Sweet (corn) and "beery" nose. Creamy texture; lacks some snap and crispness. Light caramel in the malts. OK balance but hop flavors and aromas were subdued. OK but underwhelming.

This is a good, moderately hoppy IPA that is moderately malty as well. It is not on the heavy, extra malty or extra hoppy spectrum but is well balanced and very satisfying after a long day treking through the snow with my wifie and our pooches!

Like the description says, this is a nice everyday IPA. If I had to bring an ale to a gathering, I would be comfortable bringing this.

A very well balanced and tasty brew, although more like a Pale Ale than an IPA...

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2017 On tap at several locations near Salida. Nice copper color, thick head. Mild hop aroma with pine and citrus. Flavor has some sugar, and also hops but is only moderately bitter. but it is good flavor and seems to be fresh. Retried several years later from a can. Substantially better this way, lots of fruit, some flowers. Sugar. Good ipa.

On tap, nearby brewery. Very light well balanced ipa. Clean and crisp, lots of pine and grapefruit. Great ipa!

This is not a huge hop bursting IPA. However, it is an extremely well balanced one. I can taste the pure mountain mineral water, the piney hops and the hint of malt. The finish is long and crisp.
