COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First Cast pours a hazy gold, with soft orange hues and white fluffy head that sits on its peak like the snow on the 14,000-foot mountains that are the backdrop to our microbrewery. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, and citrus hops as well as hints of caramel and fresh bread from our locally grown malt invade the senses. The beer hits with a smooth hop bitterness that tingles across the tongue with a lingering bite of mountain pine, grapefruit and fresh citrus notes. This beer is designed as an everyday brew for the craft beer aficionado, with a medium body and a high carbonation to refresh the palate.

Sweet (corn) and "beery" nose. Creamy texture; lacks some snap and crispness. Light caramel in the malts. OK balance but hop flavors and aromas were subdued. OK but underwhelming.

This is a good, moderately hoppy IPA that is moderately malty as well. It is not on the heavy, extra malty or extra hoppy spectrum but is well balanced and very satisfying after a long day treking through the snow with my wifie and our pooches!

Like the description says, this is a nice everyday IPA. If I had to bring an ale to a gathering, I would be comfortable bringing this.

A very well balanced and tasty brew, although more like a Pale Ale than an IPA...

On tap at several locations near Salida. Nice copper color, thick head. Mild hop aroma with pine and citrus. Flavor has some sugar, and also hops but is only moderately bitter. but it is good flavor and seems to be fresh.

On tap, nearby brewery. Very light well balanced ipa. Clean and crisp, lots of pine and grapefruit. Great ipa!

This is not a huge hop bursting IPA. However, it is an extremely well balanced one. I can taste the pure mountain mineral water, the piney hops and the hint of malt. The finish is long and crisp.

Served via Beer Engine. Pours a medium well retained white head, with some lacing over a cloudy (SRM 4) body....nose is pine, grapefruit peel, light cereal, no esters.....taste is heavy citrus tones, lighter toasted malts, hints of toffee/caramel sweetness, finishing with a soft but lingering, bitterness......mouth feel, medium body, hidden alcohol, slight astringency, carbonation adds tingle and light acid. This is a very soft, easy drinking beer. The hops are dominant, but add a pleasant complexity in both aroma and flavor. BJCP 8/2/17/4/7

Draft at the brewery. Pours a medium, lasting, white head, with moderate lacing, over a clear, amber (SRM 7) body.....nose is grapefruit peel, pine, light toffee/caramel...taste is light toffee/caramel, heavier pine, citrus, with hints of tropical fruit and spices, finishing with lingering resin bitterness....mouth feel medium, carbonation high. This is an IPA. It tends towards the hop backbone in aroma and flavor over the malts. This adds many interesting nuances to the overall experience. Overall it is very clean and refreshing. Bottle. Pours a clear, copper color with a nice, thick white head. Light hoppy aroma. Not much in the taste. Some hops. But that’s about it. Not much citrus or grapefruit kick. Kind of bland.

ddemmingjr (800) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAR 13, 2014
Bottle at the Breens- pours clear deep golden, frothy off white head with great retention.nose is subtle, some mint, light citrus and maybe some pine. Fluffy palate that all of a sudden falls off and gets watery. Mild hop bitterness and just not holding up as an IPA, more of a pale ale which is perfectly drinkable up at elevation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
